Celine my 6 year old ex racer has now been barefoot behind for about 10 months and been bare in front for about 4 months. Her hinds are completely rock crunching and have been going great, while her fronts are still a work in progress as they were so poor to start with - typical long toe and underrun heel with multiple stress lines throughout the hooves and poor frog and heel (generally pretty rubbish!). The new growth of her hooves is coming down pretty quick now and I'm pretty pleased with how they are looking with a better angle and more supportive heel, however I know they still have a long way to go. Her soles are still quite flat but are thicker and her frogs at the moment are not great, she is currently being treated for thrush. On the plus side, she is now finally landing heal first and tracking up well. We hack 2-3 times a week with boots on her fronts for a good couple of hours at a time with no problems and I take her out in hand barefoot for short periods on the roads a few times a week where she is sound but more careful over particularly stoney areas. And some photos for you to see what you all think? thank you for looking, all comments greatly appreciated as I really want barefoot to work for her.
