I have noticed that since conciously deciding to keep my boy barefoot I have become so much more aware of what his feet are doing, how they look etc etc... some might say I'm obsessed!

One of my most recent discoveries is how much rubber matting affects the wear of his hooves!... so shocked! When I moved yards I decided not to lay my rubber mats and as a result his feet were kept nice and trim... to the extent where there really wasn't much to take off at his 12 week trim. Then he capped his hocks - despite a nice deep bed he decided to sleep on the bit at the front that wasn't covered!! So I popped some mats down and the lack of wear on his feet is increadible.... I think a good cm... maybe more in the last 5 weeks alone... Madness!! not helped by a slight decrease in workload this last couple of weeks but just shows how much foot they can grow!!

I think it's reassuring to know, that contrary to popular non-barefoot belief, his feet will never wear away ;)

I'm getting really excited waiting for the results of my forage analysis so that I can compare with last years that was taken from a sample just a mile or so down the road... :D... yep.. I am a barefoot nerd... I admit it!

Since i started to take all mine bare I am now the same. Iv got 1 still shod and tbh I can't stand seeing the metal on her feet but I'm doing it slowly. First thing I see on any horse is the feet and I spend a lot of time feet watching. Sad it is

Yes, I am guilty of this too :D

Whenever I pick out a shod hoof now I think 'oooh this is wierd!'

If they box rest on rubber it changes the horn quality too.

I can imagine it does... I want to see about removing the rubber mat closest to the door in my boys box to at least give his feet some contact with concrete when in but knowing my luck he'll lie with his bum poking towards the door, thus capping his hocks again!! :D
