barefoot friendly chaff recommendations

Gah! I've just seen on my bag of gold blend this morning that it now contains mollasses extract!! it never used to!! Why do they have to put this crap in our horse's feeds??!!

But does it contain alfalfa? If not then it might be better than graze on or readigrass. At the moment all the lower sugar alternatives contain alfalfa.

Mollichaff Calmer doesn't contain alfalfa. I get this for my good doer mare as alfalfa sends her nuts. I think it's the only Mollichaff feed that doesn't contain it. I used to use Badminton Easyrider but she went off it.

Thanks have bought some. It seems the lowest sugar alfalfa free chaff that I can buy one bag at a time. Ideally I would like lower sugar but she is only getting a little bit.

Finding suitable chaff is a nightmare! I don't want molasses, alfalfa or garlic which wipes out most feeds. I can't get hold of just chop.

I have in the past used a garden shredder to chop barley straw and hay which worked well till it broke (and I lost many an afternoon!).

I have now found a supplier who can get me honey chop oat straw chaff and I buy grass chaff to mix it with. In summer it is more straw and in winter it is just the grass.

Has anyone else noticed that the halleys grass and timothy chop, the sugars and DE are higher in the hay?

Mine are both barefoot and fed the chaff mixture, a handful of spillers hi fibre nuts, MagOx, Brewers yeast, Linseed and I'm just starting them on a minerals mixture. All mixed up with a bit of speedibeet
