Hi - this is also in vet & foot care but am hoping to reach a wider audience:
It is now looking like I may have to put my horse back in shoes, I have a brilliant qualified & experienced DAEP who I am really happy with & who has helped get his feet back after poor farriery caused under run heels and toe first landing, the foot balance was absolutely shocking and this was by a Master Farrier, but the consensus is that although he still isn't quite right & I think it is his right back leg between hock & pelvis area, if I can't rule out the feet & foot soreness then the vet will find it hard to investigate effectively further.
I have found what looks like a fabulous & cost effective plastic shoe called Equi-eaze which seems a good compromise and the farrier who designed them sounds brilliant, he is incredibly helpful but unfortunately is at the other end of the country and my DAEP is not allowed to glue them on.
I need a farrier which makes me feel very scared as I want a podiatrist trim which is properly balanced and then the shoes just glued on, I don't want to foot cut in preparation for shoeing. A couple of names have been mentioned to me i.e., Chris Wiggins & Gareth Keevil, so if anyone has experience of these I would love to hear about it. But are there any other farriers that you would trust implicitly, who are very experienced and open to new ideas - I am desperate to help my horse but not allowed to use a qualified trimmer to help me help him - grrrrr - recommendations please as I need to get my horse properly ridden as he is now starting to lose back muscle and as he has had kissing spine surgery it is imperative I keep him fit but he is so sensitive when his foot balance isn't right. Please help!
