Am asking on behalf of a friend who is thinking about a transition but keen to get diet issues in order first. Has anyone got any recommendations for the perfect Barefoot Feeding??!!
I was only able to supply a few suggestions like Micronised Linseed and unmollassed feeds but that's about as far as more knowledge goes on the topic! For a 16hh geding in fairly light work (schooling/hacking 4 times a week)

Fast Fibre by A&P, and unmolassed beet are popular as base feeds in which you can add any supplements necessary.
Coolstance by Stance Equine is good if a horse is difficult to keep weight on.

The main rule is to try and keep the cereal/starch content as low as possible, and avoid anything with added molasses, or 'moliglow' as it is craftily referred to by some companies in an attempt to mislead.

Also, be suspicious of anything endorsed by the laminitis trust, as it just means the feed company had paid the subscription fee and doesn't necessarily mean the product is actually low in sugar and starch. Get used to reading the labels very carefully!

Hmm not quite paying for the logo it seems...

My New Forest has never worn shoes & is trimmed by an EP.

He gets fed a small of A&P Fast Fibre & Dengue Mollasses Free Happy Hoof with adlib hay & 12 hours grazing.

He's on Progressive Earth magnesium oxide & pro balance + supplement, with a small amount of salt.

I use Silverfeet hoof dressing, too.

If you post this in hoof care section the barefooters will see it. Oberon pmed me a really good diet sheet /suggestions list.
