Barefoot frogs?

My boy has flappy bits on his frogs across the heel area, but they are quite firm and I am not sure if to leave alone or not? Its the dark area near the heel, any advice please?

No, he does not seem bothered about it and he does seem to be self trimming, but the roadwork does not wear these bits off, I do not want to mess with them if they are not a problem?
Without Lucy I am having to look after his feet myself!

acc to my trimmer this time of year sees hooves flaking off layers most. But hooves are odd - on my old chap one hoof sheds the bits really easily, the other hoof they hang on attached for ages. If they arent interfering with his movement and arent creating a tight dirt pocket than cant be cleaned out, then I would leave them. We have left big chaps.

I think it is just time of year as a few of ours are shedding a bit. So long as it is not wet, smelly, sensitive don't worry. If you think it is likely to rip into a more sensitive deep area then you can trim it a bit tidier with scissors if not leave it alone.

I watched the farrier trim the bf horse hooves this week and he took a big slice off the frog..from reading advice on here I didn't think that this is right. I mentioned it to the owner but she seemed ok with it. He tends to get footy every time he gets trimmed but this was the first time I watched him do it. Have to be diplomatic about it but she trusts him so I just make the odd hint about what I've been reading about.

Unless flaps are making it hard to clean or are trapping dead material I tend to leave.
