I'm looking into going barefoot with my horse hopefully.
At the moment she is shod all round and has been shod for 2 years without a break :/

She keeps pulling off her shoes which is why I want a break for her from being shod and all transition to barefoot

So could some people give me some advise as to how to do it correctly please

I'm planning on just taking backs off first.
Will she need boots on them to hack on roads or should she be fine ?

Also her diet... I know ideally its fast fibre and linseed
But at the moment I'm feeding:
Alfa A unmollased
Blue bag grass pellets
Speedibeet

Would this be okay for just backs off?

Any advice you could give please
It's all so confusing

Thank you... Sorry it's so long

She may well be fine without boots on her hinds - many are.

Some people find their horses struggle with alfalfa, so you may want to consider swapping to some other unmolassed chaff. The grass pellets may or may not be ok - I've not heard a great deal of experiences with them either good or bad.

Good luck :)

Hi - my TB has just gone barefoot - well end of last year - we are doing well so far - he is toughening up - I may just consider boots for front feet on stony ground. I use a K C Pierre (think that is right) trained equine podiatrist who does an amazing job and is really knowledgeable. I hope that we can keep him barefoot through the summer now and really get to grips with it - obviously wet weather hasnt helped much to be honest - but I think we will get there - the farrier was starting to make him really unbalanced with shoeing and he was going lame and leaning on my hands a lot - all of which has stopped :)
