The horse must be dragging/scuffing that toe, i would imagine. unless the horse is overdue for a trim? When one of my horses started toe dragging in front, saddle fit was the culprit. Iiwy, I would check saddle fit & have a body worker take a look at the horse. Failing that I'd have a vet check.
Thanks twostroke. She was trimmed two weeks ago. Also had her saddle checked, required some reflocking as it was sitting too low on her shoulder. Only ridden in the reflocked saddle twice and then noticed her hoof. My friend studied her carefully while out hacking and didn't see her dragging her toe either. Odd one!
I have also now gone without boots every time i ride. I wonder if this would make a difference too? She has very solid feet only 5 months after shoe removal.
That was the whole reason for the reflock, as beforehand it was too low/ tight in the shoulder. But since reflocking she seems to extend more in the shoulder?!
Hi, could be toe drag by weakness in the shoulder particularly if this shoulder has been restricted/now unrestricted
Either that or some flaring has developed that makes the hoof look squarer.
Have a look at her muscle symmetry between shoulders and see if there are some obvious differences.
Get you friend to walk trot her up and watch her yourself, you are checking for footfall and twisting or of course toe drag, it may be quite subtle.
You may benefit from having a physio look at her, make sure they are ACPAT registered.
