Barefoot mafia please...

If Horseycrazy wants to shoe her pony - that's her business.

It's not for us to judge that choice or try and bully her into changing her mind.

Let it go ;)

Horsecrazy. If this is the 'very healthy pony' in question, Lovely shiney coat though he has, I'd beg to differ. Typical of the breed, he is rather well covered, has a crest forming and an apple bottom developing... and looking at the dimpling in his skin.... that is either fat(!) or swelling caused by the excess sugar in his system which can otherwise be exhibited as sweet itch. (My boy comes up in very subtle dimples wen he has too much grass. He also becomes increasingly itchy.

I'm afraid he got sore feet when ridden as he is obviously very sensitive to dietary sugars. My boy is exactly the same - now 5 years old and very footie on and off for his whole life, up to the point I looked into his mineral requirements and restricted his access to grass - he is a big horse at 17hh so this is quite hard to achieve. He is now rock crunching over all surfaces.

I would refrain from getting in arguments with people with significantly more experience than you who think you can get away with the argument that 'some horses just need shoes' ... :D

What a load of twaddle being polite he has a sugar free diet he has no dimples there was no argument it is peoples opinions that is what a forum is for and he most definitely is not a fat horse. Of course I expected critisisim of the photo thank you for this you have not let me down. Also he has done a lot of work since this photo

ok whatever!!

Thanks for the thread hijack horsey ;) he is gorgeous by the way!

For anyone interested, pony came sound a day before her trim, feet now look fab and she is enjoying her work and has 'happy feet'. :) Could tie in with the fact I reduced her grass to bare paddocks so less sugar but who knows! Have got some fast fibre on order so will change her over to her new diet asap. :)

If she continues to be nice and sound I'll start some hacking on smooth roads and see how she goes!

Megibo sorry it was not my intention, so glad your horse is well no shoes then ........ Only kidding everyone......

Funny you should mention fast fibre looking at it today let me know what you think to it.

thats okay ;)

Got it today, soaks into a nice mush to mix with chaff and my two ate it all up so :) just need to get hold of the other feeds i need now!
