Hi
BOTH my horses have come down with abcesses over the last two days. both dug out and poulticed.
unfortunatly i've alot of experiance with various foot related injuries so have the actual bandaging down to a fine art.
Was wondering if there was anything i could be feeding to help with the healing process. both are fed minerals (forageplus feed plan) + yea sacc- i'm assuming biotin, anything else?boots on order.
the youngster is straight forward with only a small triangle out of his toe. they had to dig alot to get at the one on the older lad - its right back past the white line along his toe. tissue is exposed and you can see a small area of his sole.
any suggestions re my general management for this? the youngster (4) has never been shod the older lad 16 was shod up to the age of 7 then fronts for a year (2010) apart from this barefoot.
no previous for the 4 year old and a nasty one (tracked into coffin bone) 9 years ago for the older one.
both trimmed by my farrier who does a good job - i just keep a roll on the edges inbetween. very keen to keep them barefoot. both out 24/7 feet look good to me- some (what i thought were) superificial hairline cracks which is where the infection has got in.
only changes are yea sacc two weeks ago and the minerals 3 months ago.
sorry for the essay - just concerned that i'm missing or doing something with both horses getting this with no history (or is it just one of those things!)
