I need to replace two pairs of Old Macs (after about 4 years of reasonably heavy useage), and I like the look of the Renegades. However they are obviously more expensive than all the other boots - are they worth it? I'd expect them to be easy to put on and to last a long time to justify the extra cost.
I've tried Gloves, and they were difficult to use and came off the horses when they cantered (two different horses, and I had used a fit kit). I ordered some Cavallos recently but the sizing was way out so they went back, and I'm not sure I liked the quality so not planning to order any more. Old Macs have been great, but they are a little bit clumpy, which is why I'm looking at alternatives.... any experiences would be useful!

I used to use Renegade boots. they stayed on brilliantly (only twisted twice before I learnt to do them up tighter), look cool, no rubs at all and easy to put on BUT rubbish grip! I nolonger use Renegades because of their lack of grip on hard surfaces like short grass or slippery mud, I use EasyBoot Gloves which even though they don't fit very well (I needed a power strap with holes punched much tighter than recommended) they generally stay on and always stay on if I put oxide tape on the hoof. They have only come off once and that was a flat out TB gallop! I would now not go back to Renegades as gloves feel much more like a natural hoof and are less clumpy.

Cavallo boots are good, I know someone who swears by them, grip is very good and they stay on her horse's feet very well, she has them on backs and fronts. Not sure about the newer 'sport' ones but the original are really good :) x
