Little update after my thread today on how well he is doing :)

Sorry if they are huge, can't be bothered re-sizing! How are they looking?

Looking ace! Love that you can see the new angle of growth!! Most important thing though, is he sound? If he is sound then his new feet are working for him, in which case they are beautiful!!

Yes he is! And moving better than ever, tracking up properly for the first time in forever, and everything! Its amazing to see. I just can't believe that he is improving, just by taking his shoes off! Can't wait to see how he progresses... :D

If I may try, I can see it, from his coronet band, the new angle of growth if you lay a ruler along the outside of the hoof shows the new angle the foot wants to grow at naturally?
Hope that's right, I'm still learning myself! However as above says, if the horse is sound, who cares what the feet look like! :D

Try as I might as well, I can't see this new angle of growth, can someone explain where it is, and why its better please?? :D

It shows nicely in your second pic - the top 1/5 - 1/4 is narrower than the rest of the foot, that shows the new angle that the hoof wall is growing at, and if you follow this smaller shape down it will give you an idea what a whole new foot will look like for him. As well as taking off the shoes have you also tweaked the diet? Pulling in tighter all round could also suggest a tigher lamilar attachment - all fantastic stuff!!!

It really is completely wonderful how their movement improves isn't it?!! Now you see why it is hard to find someone with comfortable barefoot horses who is anything less than rather madly keen on it lol! We are a bunch of very keen saddos for a reason, the change in a sore unhappy horse into a striding confident and happy to be alive one is truly incredible!! You will become so addicted to watching his feet develop, take millions of pics, you'll be glad you did! (ahem, and now I'll chill out lol!)

Ahh yes I can see it now, it almost looks like further down, like the hoof is flaring outwards?

Thank you :)

No, I'm a convert as well, its so interesting, and I can see that once you go, there's no turning back unless you have to!

Yes I did alter his diet, he's on fast fibre, mag ox, pro hoof and brewers yeast. Looking at getting some linseed as well as some point possibly.

Is it likely that purely taking the shoes off caused that new angle to grow? Or the diet, or a combination of the two?

Thank you :D :D

Yeah, it does make the lower part of the hoof look flared. Pulling the shoes is enough to totally alter the shape of the hoof, diet will alter it too but no shoes is quite enough to allow the horse to grow a radically different shaped hoof - it really is just amazing!

He's been busy:)

Feet are looking great to me. I can't see any excessive toe wear - so it looks like he is landing heel-first more.

Frogs are looking stronger and more robust.

New angle growing in (although not very obvious as it wasn't terrible to being with - just needed a small tinker;))

And of course the cracks - well you can see that for yourself :)

And if he is happy, then it's all good.

Are you riding him again?

This is a great pic from Rockley Farm's blog of the other day, indicating a new angle of growth following going BF
