Hi everyone, I'm a huge barefoot fan; I've had one horse who had shoes on and he was the only one who had foot problems, lameness etc.
with my new horse (had since October) I want to keep him barefoot. Problem is, my farrier is quite stuck in his ways. He saw my horse and was intent on putting shoes on him, saying "as soon as you start riding him on the roads he'll need shoes"
Even though this was in February and I'd been riding him on the road most days since October and he's absolutely fine. Just to be on the safe side after this I have got him some barefoot boots for road work but he's just fine; not footy, perfectly happy to go for miles on road/stony tracks etc. and when I got him I don't think he'd been ridden on roads much so I did a lot of conditioning work (looked up a programme online and followed it) as well as keeping his diet low sugar/starch etc so being careful, but (typical arab) his feet are hard and strong and show no signs of cracking etc.
So...I really want to find a proper barefoot trimmer who'll support my decision and keep him barefoot, does anyone from doncaster/isle of axholme/north lincs/south yorks area know of a good barefoot trimmer who will trim his hooves properly? If so please tell me their name/number etc or pm me.
Thanks so much.
