Barefoot trimmers

In the UK that would be illegal Gonetofrance, criminal charges could be brought. Only registered farriers can prepare a hoof for shoeing and shoe.
Having said that, my horses' feet are much better since I changed to my excellent (and well trained) trimmer. I could not convince the farrier to care for the hooves in the way I needed in order for my horses to perform well barefoot.

wow!

i would never use the cytek shoes myself as they can cause all sorts of problems, but it is illegal for a BT to nail on shoes!! surely that is your way to stop the mascare of innocent hooves? because it is illegal?

all i can say is wow, that poor horse, i hope the owner found a decent farrier!

surely the same rules apply in France? (was this where the shoeing was done?) that no barefoot trimmer is allowed to trim for the application of shoes and no one but a registered farrier may apply shoes.

this is the loophole that BT's use because they are not trimming for the application of shoes.

i hope the horse is ok now?

He lived in Jersey, so didn't come under any jurisdiction. Clever, huh?
Now he has apparently passed KC's level that allows him to teach others.

Until they become controlled, it will all escalate at the expense of the horse.

The horse is OK now, but it was a very dangerous method for a horse that had been a laminitic a few years previously.

that makes me sick. that poor horse!

i used to do a horse that is now doen by a BT and the last time i went to that yard the horse was still lame.

i wish the owner had discussed her going barefoot with me as i would have advised against it (would not have been great for the mare certainly not where she was being wrked on tarmac) but would have done the job properly and for less.

i had a local sspca inspector call me looking for a particular trimmer as he had caused a fair bit of damage to a few horses feet in my area, 1 of which was deemed to be a cruelty case. I wouldn't use one even if they paid me.

So how long does a barefoot trimmer actually train for?

That is absolutely apalling! I'm not anti barefoot trimmers, we use one for some of our horses and our farrier shoes the others.

I thought it was an absolute NO NO for BT's to shoe horses? And am struggling to use the word shoe to be honest, looking at that photo. Butcher more like.

It is illegal, but their egos seem to be above the law in a few cases..............

So why wasn't a prosecution brought GTF? And why haven't you brought a prosecution for all these illegal activities? You seem the proactive sort.

I did say earlier.

That was the response from the WCF. We pursued it as much as we could, the French authorities were notified and information given by French farriers registered over here. I'd be interested why you think I could bring a prosecution?

Do you have a problem with my concerns about welfare?

which is why i would not use a BT.

as far as i am aware (and i have done minimal research only because it just makes my blood boil) they train fpr anywhere froma few days to a couple of weeks to a couple of months.

the thing that makes me anti is that they slag us off to try and drum up business, thats not right on any level. to call a four year apprenticeship lack of knowledge?
