Please dont turn this into a HHO discussion  on barefoot

Thanks to Oberon I switched our warmblood to barefoot and she has improved. My others are still shod so this is a completely unbiased opinion. It might not work for all but it has for her. Her feet are not 100% yet but they are better and she is sound.

Now for the disaster. The trimmer recommended by Oberon is giving up this area.

Anyone got any recommendations - please :D:D:D

Im in the same boat :( I cried the man was amazing :o

Did you contact the lady he suggested? She's hopefully going to pick most of us up on a similar cycle.

Can I ask you a genuine question on this OP? None of my horses are shod as all are broodmares or youngters. All are trimmed by a regular farrier. I wondered why other unshod horses see a 'barefoot trimmer' rather than a regular farrier?

LOL, would have asked the same question myself :D

Our mare has had several farriers in the past. All advised that she needed shoeing in a certain way to correct her feet. Non advised shoe removal, said it would make her worse and I did ask. Got totally desperate and posted on here. Oberon recommended a trimmer and I thought what have I got to loose.

So perhaps its not that they dont have the skills to trim, just obviously dont believe in the concept.

Plus having seen what my local ones r capable of they wouldn't get near my horses :o many are also of the opinion aquick slap/ yank etc is acceptable when it damn well isn't.

OP iv see a couple of good things about her and she is uknhcp which is the only lot I trust rather than daep etc

Thats strange. Our farrier said half the horses he shoes dont need them. Could you just try and contact a different local farrier to see if he can trim your horses - I dont understand how a "barefoot trimmer" can do a better job than a farrier who has done all that training.

As I have said I am not anti farrier, I have used them for 40 years.

In this case its the belief in removing shoes as a solution to a problem rather than exteme corrective shoeing.

I agree farriers will trim most horses without argument and even advise not to bother shoeing.

Our regular farrier does both ... He still gets paid whether its a fully shod, front shod or trim. And does a good job with all Xxxx

So does mine, currently have one fully shod and one with them removed for the winter.

However this mare was the exception, traditional methods just did not work. I must admit I didn't expect the barefoot to be any different, but in this case it has been. I cant argue with the evidence, the mare had dreadful feet and was on and off lame, with three different farriers. I am not complaining about any of them, it just didn't work. They were fine with my others and everyone elses horses.

Dont have any explanation for that, but if it works, dont knock it.
