Does anyone know where I can find information on barefoot trimming courses? I live in the Thames Valley and would like to take a barefoot trimming class but cant find anything local.

Thank you for the replies. Owners courses seem hard to find! The online course looks interesting...I can do that one around the kids too! Thank you scrunchie.

I might have to get my farrier to give me a crash course to help maintain between visits :)

I attended a Pete Ramey owner's course a few years ago, which was fantastic. It was all theory, we didn't touch a horse, although Pete did a little bit of trimming on the last afternoon.

I think the "barefoot" movement came under a lot of criticism as to start with there were some weekend courses, and this gave a lot of ammunition to people who said that trimmers only had three days training. Which was nonsense, but I think it struck home and it was also in the days when Strausser trimming was first introduced to the UK.

Now both "schools" offer training, but it is quite a long term project and commitment and would include dissections and lots of theory.

If you just want to rasp round the edges to keep the hoof neat then ask you trimmer to show you how, and more importantly, what NOT to do.

As above. A good trimmer will be happy to teach you to keep a horse tidy with a rasp over time.

Pete Ramey's Under the Horse DVD can provide the theory. You can hire it for a charitable donation on the Intelligent Horsemanship forum.

I'm sure there is an Owner's course with a KC La Pierre trained trimmer that I saw on a website recently (either EP or DEAP, I can't remember which).

....found it
