Hiah, I've learnt so much from everyone on this forum and would like to say a big thank you all out there! Taking particular interest in barefoot, PPID and high fibre feeding threads
Last week, I made the decision to have my horse's hinds removed and I would love your opinions on how we're looking after a week (hope the photos come out ok):
Bit of background - my boy is a 22 yo m/w knabstrupper x TB, owned for 16 years. He's always been shod, had a busy competitive jumping career, still sound and useful and in light competitive work. He's been well maintained and mollycoddled
Diagnosed PPID September 2012, responded very well with Prascend and diet overhaul (not that he's ever had a molassed/high cereal diet), Speedibeat/Top Spec Bal/Micronised Linseed/MagOx/Lysine. Ablib hay and 12 hour turn out every day.
I've been researching barefoot rehabilitation for so long now, it makes complete sense to me and have been itching for some time to take the plunge. He's sound and comfortable in field, on Tarmac and in menage, but sore over stones (which expected and for some time). I would LOVE to know what you think of his hinds after one week - this is my first experience with going barefoot!! Plan to have fronts removed maybe next 'shoeing', so 4 weeks.... and will have boots a ready
