barefooters/diet gurus... chaff help

Question for Oberon re:diet

With regard to say Build Up Cubes D&H how bad/ or what is the very bad stuff in them for barefooters?

I've just taken my TB barefoot but i was struggling for ages to get any weight on him and he was/is still getting D&H Build Up Cubes. Having treated for hindgut ulcers he is now chunking up (doesnt need anymore condition on him) so i am reducing the amount of cubes, but i've got about 4 bags of the stuff left (he is footy on the concrete) - he is getting balanced minerals in with the feed - should i just cut my loses and ditch the Build-up for Fast Fibre?

Also he is out 24/7 on strip grazing.

Sorry to hijack the thread...

no probs... :D but just to say i have now found that build up was the biggest waste of money out there! never put an ounce on any of mine i used it on. my 40 yr old mare was looking very poor last year, and fast fibre turned that round (also with veteran vitality) in the blink of an eye almost.

i hear you there, i think the treatment for hindgut ulcers and micronised linseed have turned my lad around...but i bought a bulk order of the build-up as it was cheaper andi hate wasting food so maybe i should just gift them to a horse charity.

Dab - I am limited to my phone atm (laptop RIP) and I don't know what is in the Build Up Cubes.
Condition feeds puzzle me. High levels of cereal and starch are known to mess with the gut pH - therefore making poor use of digestion, a higher likelihood of ulcers and sore hooves. TBs tend to suffer worse as it's considered normal to feed them this stuff. Also it's considered normal for them to have poor hooves......coincidence???
The only cereal I would feed would be good, old fashioned oats. Otherwise it's fibre, minerals and oils for me. :p
