Barefooters - tips please - bruised soles.

Trinity consultants do good supplements too which I'm using at the moment. We've also got bruised soles. It's such hard ground right now but it'll just have to run it's course...

Horse shoes.

My last mare got bruised soles even with shoes so this is not the ultimate remedy!

While I am not a barefoot fanatic, I see limited benefit to ultimately weakening the hoof structure in my young horse, particularly when he is only going to be in light work for the next 5 months... if his workload increases and I feel he needs shoes, he will have them but at 3.5 years old and still growing I would like toty other solutions first.

Quite. Very well put :)

Excellent response.

Madness isn't it? The slightest problem and some go straight to having shoes put on. There are some brilliant hoof boots out there if a barefoot horse needs a bit of help.
Cptrayes, I think I might get an analysis of my grazing and hay, that's a really good point. I've got three rock-crunchers in the field, but we still sometimes have the odd hiccup. Any tweaks I can make to help them would be well worth doing.

Just did a search on Keratex and found this thread very interesting can you please give an update as to what worked for you in the end CB Fan. Trixie is just coming back into work and was fab for the first 3 weeks and is now starting to feel the grit on the road and the stony track is a no-no :(

Had farrier last week and he said her feet were great and I wasn't over doing it but as I said now she is feeling ouchy on the grit.

Have today purchased Keratex but not applied it as mine live out and it's currently raining!

Like the idea of boots but such a huge variety and some are very expensive so would welcome your advice having just been through very similar.

Many thanks
