My OH and I have been thinking of going on a cheap package holiday abroad some time in spring/early summer, somewhere with sun & hopefully a beach.

But then I was thinking, in light of the financial difficulties in the Euro zone, perhaps it may be possible to find a bargain priced riding holiday instead? Greece/Spain/Cyprus/Portugal?

Any ideas? Is it possible to put together a 1 week riding holiday somewhere warm-ish for approx 300 per person including flights?

I thought it would be pushing it for just 300, but I am thinking it may be possible since every now and then I see charter offers out there for flights/accommodation/occasionally meals too well below 200. Some of these resorts must be in the vicinity of a riding establishment :-D

I would certainly consider Eastern Europe as well but think the flights aren't as cheap there, so perhaps it would add up to more.

Whereabouts in Italy are you scrooge?

I have just got back from a sunny long weekend in South Spain and spent a day riding there.

We got breakfast, lunch and dinner and all drinks including unlimited alcohol :) and was only 40 Euros for the day including 3 hours of riding and I thought that was really good. Oh and it's a PRE stud too so got to drool over the lovely ponies!

I didn't stay there but they mentioned that when we go back they can arrange cheap accommodation nearby and you can do as many days as you like. It's also on the coast so plenty of beaches nearby.

I got cheap flights with Ryanair but I guess it might be more expensive closer to summer. Also be warned that despite everything, the pound is not that strong against the Euro so it doesn't go as far as we might think unfortunately.

That sounds great Weasel. I have PM'ed you.

It would be so nice to get a riding holiday out of this rather than "just" a package trip to somewhere warm. I have not done a beach holiday before, it sounds lovely, but not nearly as nice as a riding holiday.

You should check out a company called 'Far and Ride' who run specialist riding holidays to destinations all over the world, some of which are very reasonably priced.
I went to on a riding holiday to Turkey in the summer and it was the best holiday I've ever had! Holly, Sarah and Sue who run the business are absolutely fabulous and are happy to help you find a holiday thats perfect for you...I've even already booked my next riding holiday with them for summer 2012!
Would recommend them 100%
You can also check them out on facebook as Holly regularly checks the page and there's load of pictures you can look at!

Thank you Princess Jess. I had a look at the far and ride website, they seem to offer a wide range of trips and destination but they don't seem to have that many budget options. Not saying they are bad value, but I'm looking for something comparable to the cost of a cheap package holiday :-)
