I think you'll find I said to tie him up if he was being agressive towards her while she was in the stable. I never suggested it would make him patient I suggested it would make him safe.

I am absolutely stunned that someone else suggested whipping the horse or hitting it with a pipe (as if he were cattle no less, I appreciate this point was rescinded on further infromation

) and yet you choose to target my advice as ridiculous.

Having dealt with various degrees of the 'bargy horse' in the time I have worked at livery yards I can safely say tieing up whilst IN THE STABLE BESIDE them is the safest option until you can retrain the horse to respect your space.

I was in no way suggesting you should tie a horse up and leave it or that the tieing up process will make the horse patient (or happy but I'm sure I wouldn't be happy nursing a bruise from being bitten)

I hope you get to the root of your boys problem, such a shame he's being like this when he's usually so lovely, good luck

Thanks for your advice, it really is appreciated.
I must point out though that my lad isn't a biter - yes he bit me yesterday, he was nudging me & I was ignoring him as he'd been bargy so to get my attention he bit me & he got a good wallop for it! This is not normal behaviour for him - he would never normally bite but as I say he'd really got his pants in a twist yesterday! I honestly don't believe he'll bite me again, it's that out of character.
I will give tying him up whilst I'm with him a go, am willing to try most reasonable suggestions at this point, but I don't know if it'll work? The trouble with this as I can see it is that before I leave him I'll have to untie him then leg it to the stable door before he can get there!
I'm not worried about being in the stable with him, he's very good if you're in there it's only if you are in the way when he wants to get out that you have difficulties....
