Hi

Me and Oscar moved yards on saturday (We moved home from uni, although he has never moved as i bought him at uni off breeder!)
He appears to have settled well, is apparently chilled in his field and his stable.

However today he was really bolshy and bargy, which is unlike him! He is usually really respectful! Now I think its partly because of the move so I dont want to keep telling him off but it isnt acceptable behaviour and he knows it

He is being worst at feed times! He will NOT wait patiently for his dinner he faces at me (most unlike him) and threatens to rear! (Silly buger!!)

I can put his feed bowl in his stable prior to put him in so we avoid the situation, but i dont wanna brush it under the carpet! But on the other hand i dont want to make an argument everynight when i know he needs me to help him settle.

It isnt helping that he is in the field alone (only for copuple more weeks, yards policy on new arrivals) so has no one to burn his energy up with!!

Any advice?

Thanks :)

I am sure it'll be down to the excitment of moving and him being a bit unsettled. I would try and do everything the same as you did before and don't take any rubbish off him! I personally would feed as you've fed before - be firm with him and make him move back away from you when you are taking his food in. It's not about having an argument it's about setting boundaries and make him respect your space and that you are still the boss whatever the situation.

Firm but calm is my only really suggestion!

Yea i thought he mite just be settling. Poor little man so much stress for such a younster!! Will give him few more weeks to properly settle, whilst not letting him be too naughty!!! :)

One thought. Have you changed his feed? Possibly to something more molassed than he is used to? Because one of ours behaves this way if he gets sugar.. even a little and he is a real pig, barging, shoving and pushing. Without it he is a gentleman.

Not for bout 6 weeks. He is on blue chip lami lite (had lami in may :( ) with fast fibre and linseed (is little underweight atm )

But i have upped feed a little due to weight loss so i spose it could be that maybe? Although i think the feed is all fairly low in molasses and suger.
