My friends pony has had laminitis and been stabled at a friends. We have no stable or field shelter so she has made an enclosure for when he returns which she plans to bark chip until he can be turned out properly again. I am concerned if he eats them they may be toxic. Can anyone help please? Thank-you

I don't know where you live (if it's Somerset, I'll tell you where we go) but our local timber merchants lets us have a car full of wood chippings (two huge dumpy bags WILL fit in our car!) for £5. They aren't bark chippings, they are like giant wood shavings and they are fantastic. Highly recommend trying your local timber merchants. Ours are all light wood, mostly pine...nothing to poison a pony should he decide to taste one. (which ours hasn't.)

That's fine thanks. She is having a "load" delivered for £60. We will see if it's a bargain! I have a "pony prison" in my field for when my mare had laminitis. I have 3 rolls of artificial grass cricket runs I put on the floor as she was not allowed anything. She had straw on top and a greenguard which was fine. If I wanted to do mine permanently I may well choose bark as an alternative!
