barking ALL THE TIME!

Well, the dog is constantly barking. Some of you may remember I posted about my terrier and I having a bit of a scrap whilst I was pregnant. He is absolutley fantastic with the baby (although we are obviously always wary) and he guards him when there are other dogs about etc BUT he barks all the time. I think it may be partly cos of feeling he needs to protect the property due to the baby. We also have rats living in the garden which winds him up but we are getting rid of those. Npt sure what methods to use to stop him barking-he is driving me mad!!!

I have two Jack Russells, who live outside, they used to bark all night, at any passing fox, rodent or rabbit. They also used to bark at fireworks, so I bought some Fireworx capsules from Global Herbs. I'm not usally in to calming supplements, but these really did the trick. They only had half the reccommended dose (1 capsule each per day, not two). I spoke to Global herbs, who told me that they do a lower dose supplement called Relax (for dogs).
Now, they have nothing at all, they do bark occasionally, but there's usually a reason for it.
Like I said, I don't "Do" calmers, but I'm converted in this case!!
 
LOL. I forgot I had posted this until I was looking for posts on barking dogs and found this

We have quite a big garden and he runs around it barking so a water gun would be no good unfortunately.
I saw a ad in the paper for a collar that emits a oulse of some sort?? I would never use one of the electric shock collars because he would have a nervous breakdown but I wondered if this was a gentler way of stopping him.

Anti bark collars work by spraying a scented spray at the dogs chin when it barks. My experience of them is they work for some dogs and not for others. My Lab had one and she stopped all needless barking within three weeks, but for my JRT it had no effect he worked out that the spray would run out eventually if he barked long enough!
