Our neighbours have three dogs which they leave out in the garden when they go off to work in the day - even in winter unless raining or snowing. Understandably the dogs aren't very impressed by this and howl, whine and bark all day. The terrier is worse as she just yips constantly. The dogs also bark at night when they are in the house - as our bedroom window over looks their house this noise keeps us all awake. Sometimes the bloke leaves the house at 4.30 for work and the dogs bark all the way through until the lady gets up.

Now, our neighbours must be deaf as they don't seem to hear them or care.

We have complained to them several times, once even hauling the guy back from the pub at 10 o'clock at night, so he can take his dogs in. Once they came back from the pub and left the lab out and wnet to bed so we had to go round and knock at 3 in the morning as the dog was whinging and crying.

I just wondered if anyone in a similar situation. They aren;t being reasonable and I am sure think we just like moaning so don't know where to go from here - can environmental health help - obviously rather not go down this route is possible for the sake of neighbourly relations. Or should we try discussing it with them one more time?

At the moment we have taken to throwing a handful of biscuits over the hedge - keeps them quite for half an hour!

Get in touch with your local council and they will slap an order on them to stop the dogs barking - or get rid of them.

It's one of my biggest bug bears, and I'm the neighbour from hell where this is concerned, as I simply won't tollerate it.

Thanks - will give the council a ring. Its one of those things wher you don't want to fall out over it but I am chocked at how inconsiderate people can be! They seem to think we are being completely unreasonable!

or maybe the dog warden and mabe the RSPCA

Contac the noise abatement officer...they will drop a card in stating that they have received a complaint/s, than ask for some recording equiptment and log times that the dogs bark, it takes time, but the local authority will have to intervene
