As I am having trouble getting Micronized Linseed locally without having to pay as much in postage,I have been recommended barley rings, my only concern is will they cause him to fizz, I have to use speedy beet and plain old chaff (infact I use Ready Grass) as we can easily have more upward motion than forward motion.

Barley rings are processed from barley, as you might have guessed, so are not a substitute for linseed.
THe 20kg bag of micronised linseed [Charnwood milling], will cost £28 and last 100-200 days, I think you need to have another look at your diet and your costings!

I am not convinced about Ready-Grass, are you sure it is not full of sugar, ie like grass!

Charnwood don't deliver to here but I am heading to Suffolk for Christmas so can pick some up then, I have had a quote to have them delivered from another company but delivery to the West of Scotland is £17. I know what you are saying about the ready grass, but for some reason the feed balance I have now seems to suit him, just needs a boost in the winter

Can you get regular whole linseed locally? If so, you can grind it in a coffee grinder and feed it like that, you don't have to feed the micronised stuff. I get mine from a bird place, it is much cheaper than the micronised stuff but you do have to grind it fresh each day as it doesn't keep. It is not poisonous when raw as long as you don't feed pounds of it, so don't worry about that. :)
