Barn front ideas

Hi All,

We have a 2 sided open barn we’re putting 2 internal stables in, we’re hoping we can cover the front of the barn with something wind & waterproof.

Does anyone have any quick cheap ideas ? Or have done this before ?

We were thinking a curtain or something ?! 🤔

We have used two different types of netting. One has been much better than the other though both would have been improved if we could have fitted them properly. The stuff we currently have has made a huge difference but doesn't 100% keep wind and rain out. Might if it was tight enough. My advice is to not skimp on what you use and install it to manufacturers specifications.
 
Scaffold netting may work. A couple of layers over heavy duty polythene will last for a few years, unless you get howling winter gales. Otherwise you may have to look at something more permanent like pallets and reclaimed floorboards....
 
Ohhh......... there IS something which I looked at a few years ago when we were renovating our old tumbledown cowhouse and making it into stables.

Wish I could remember the proper name of it; it is like corrugated iron, but with lots of little holes in it. If that makes sense. The idea is that the wind can go through it so the inside of the building remains ventilated, but there is protection from rain. Google "Vented agricultural housing" or similar and you might just come up with it?? Looked like good stuff. Might consider doing some of ours with it in the future, if budget permits (which it probably won't!!).
 
Yorkshire boarding is effective and reasonably cost effective (wont say cheap because nothing wood is any more) if you don't want it 100 % dry and wind proof.

If you do want it spotless then you'll have to board it in totally
 
I used to livery at a similar set up and they used an old curtain side from a lorry. They are heavy duty!

I have ventilated rainscreen cladding (think that's what poster above means?) and I wouldn't recommend. It's only ventilated enough to let in wind, rain and snow but not normal airflow. I wouldn't recommend it for your set up, plus it's not cheap.
