I'm looking to have a barn where I can park our horsebox in and also to cover a lunge pen/horse walker. I think I'll probably need something 20m x 25/30m as the lunge pen/horse walker will be about 18 x 18m/20 x 20m. The key is it needs to be as cheap as possible, I would consider a second-hand barn. I know there are pole barns, steel barns, dutch barns, barns with yorkshire boarding, breeze-block... which one would be best and how much do they tend to cost?! Does anyone have any recommendations in the gloucestershire area? Thanks!

Steel framed work out quite well, if you work on whatever the shed costs it will cost about the same to have it put up, 2nd hand can work out dearer, you will prob have to take it down and then prob replace the cladding and roof sheets as they are often brittle. Don't forget to add in concrete etc.

You can probably take the cost of the barn, add a third again for erection and another third minimum for baseworks etc.

Our 20x12m so smaller than yours - about half the size) is costing (new) about £18k for the barn, 6k for the baseworks and about £5k for delivery and erection.

One double the size wont be double the cost. maybe half as much again? also our site is v exposed NE Scotland so you might be able to get cheaper delivery etc,

Also types of buildings vary, we have to get strong stuff due to winds straight off the Cairngorms :-)

From bitter experience, if you do buy an existing building, make sure that you are the only customer the seller has sold it to..........not joking....there are a few dodgy characters around!
