As excited as Kitty about to be a bridesmaid
Morning,
First world farm girl problems
So I have planning to reinstate a previous barn that was removed by old owners. The planning is for wooden sides and metal roof so can't be swapped to concrete in the lower parts without having to get variation of planning and also I'm happy with the whole barn being wood. The question comes with whether it would be better to have solid shiplap walls, or vertical boards with a small breather gap of 1cm between them. Picture below with the gaps for people to see.
The barn is 15m x 4.5m, open fronted like the picture and will be used for, at different times, machinery, hay or bedding, general storage and part of it as a field shelter/crew yard for shetlands or sheep. I will have a sliding door in one rear corner for this as field is behind barn, this can also be used for ventilation if needed.
My thoughts are that with summers being so hot now the ventilation from the gaps will be good if storing hay or being used for animals, I can also add chipboard to the inside at any point to make a wind break for the shetlands who may spend some time in it in the winters. However fully boarded with no gaps will of course be warmer for the little loves, but will it get too warm in the summer, although will be open at the front and back for the bit used as field shelter?
Barn will be almost identical to one pictured below, but with more bays, cost is the same for either type of board, there will be no clear panels in the roof at all.
Any wisdom?
