Our yearlings rug has been stolen off his back, its a navy medium weight with RED and our WS4 postcode on it and chestnut hairs.
They had a go at the electric fencer but it must have been held down well as its still there.
Im near Walsall West Mids.

Some people really are unbelieveable - gits. My YOs car was stolen from the house next door the other day, in broad daylight! What is it with people?!

The only way is to make the rug so unsaleable they will leave it alone. Customise the replacement with florescent paint in two colours, spray the postcode in three foot high letters all over it, and alarm your gate with a rape alarm (very easy to do virtually all you need are a couple of nails and some fishing line!)
Even if the field is in the middle of nowhere the noise should spook them enough to make them leg it...

Hubbys uncle had his caravan stolen off his drive in daylight and they only popped into the house for a cuppa before they went. He had a car stolen another time and they found it round the corner from our old house!
Everything we have is marked with the postcode and house number. Rugs have the postcode and the horses freeze mark number. Although Red has only just been marked so his number isnt on it yet. Im so glad he is marked.
Hubbys got lots of different colour paint, maybe we do it like a rainbow!
The energiser was paddlocked round a branch of a tree and they broke the branch off, but it was also in a barbed wire box, chained to a scaffold pole and painted green to make it less obvious, they left it in the middle of the field in a heap. Its chained round a gate post and the entier tree now!
Ive also put up notices in the local pet/feed/tack shops about the thefts, saying the police have been notified as i think these scum are local.

If i caught them, believe me when i say i would be the one in trouble! Trouble is they could take it out on the horses.
Its happened so often though i just wish people would leave us alone!!

That is such a good idea! One I'd never thought of and will do tomorrow! Will do it on the door into the stables as not alarmed and door faces away from the YOs house.

Thankies!

They dont come over our gate as there is a house directly opposite the gateway. They climb the fence and drive up the field next door, as there is a little track in the field that the tractor and the owners 4x4 have made. It had been used you could see the tyre tracks in the wet ground. You could see where they had turned round.
The energiser they took befor Christmas had a rape alarm on it, it must have gone off because they stuffed it into the water trough i assume to shut it up. The one off this energiser was found in the fiield next door smashed into little bits.
One of our horses sharers were there today and spotted a SILVER MG in the gateway, they were there for quite a while, but drove off when her hubby and her friends hubby went towards them to see who it was. Its a narrow gateway on a very busy main road, not the sort of place you would pull into unless you knew it was there.
