Base Layers that are comfortable

I bought a couple of black basic ski-wear base layers from decathlon about 12 years ago for not much money , and I wore them for skiing and have worn them for riding nearly everyday since then. I do wear two black polo tops for the hot summer days that I got given when I went to a Happy Hackers camp in 2008. And that is it!

I have 6 of these. Really comfortable. Feel kind of cotton-ey but are wicking. Don't make me sweaty.

My granny gives me her cashmere jumpers when the elbows wear out, lol. They are flexible, soft, comfortable and warm and you don’t get all sweaty.
I wear one under my hunting jacket and I’m out all day and it’s like a temp regulator - I’m never too hot or cold and I don’t look like a stuffed toy either! All that’s underneath is a t shirt.
Thick cotton tights under my jodhs if it’s a cold day.

I just order base layers 2 sizes bigger then they're looser, Im bigger than you so hate the clingy feeling too. I only ever wear them under a sweatshirt or under a gilet so nobody sees it anyway! I love my Noble Outfitters one the most but dont think they make them anymore.

I've also dug out my old Thermatex waist coat that I used to wear under my hunt coat. I've been wearing it over a base layer and under a fleece. I'd forgotten how warm it was.

I've been half keeping an eye open for one of these second-hand. I get frozen when I work and I think one of these are what I need for under a jumper as it would mean my arms don't feel too bulky but knowing thermatex it should be really warm.

M&S heatgen rollnecks are quite long in the body, and super warm too

Was also going to suggest these - I live in mine in winter as base layer under a jumper/ fleece.

For base layers I use running tops in the summer and thermal baselines from Mountain Warehouse when it is really cold. I also use a polo neck microfleece which is thin but warm to ride in for a large chunk of the year. My most recent purchases of those were from Dublin but I still own one that is nearly 40 years old from Musto.

I hate zips so these are all pull on and easy to wash and quick to dry.

Their fleece lined thermal leggings are amazing.

Isobaa from Sport Pursuit, completely non-itchy merino, non-mulesing (ie not cruel) and not plastic. You also don't need to wash them too often as merino is naturally anti bacterial. Make great pyjamas when they're not fit for public view too!

As I sit here I have a 180 base layer and the 320 half zip on, virtually my work uniform now! I also have two pairs of the joggers, the mix ones, that I use for everything including sleeping in!
