What do people pay these days for a pretty basic DIY option?
Stable, grazing preferably a school but again that can be very basic.
Im just pondering leaving the working farm I’m currently at as it’s not very horse friendly really and I’d like company. The main plus is that it’s dirt cheap (£750 per year!) and there are no rules I just do my own thing. There are a few old horses for field company but not ridden.
I’m wondering if I could afford to go elsewhere without it being a struggle!
I realise all areas will be very different

Currently pay £30 for stable, hot wash box, solarium, horse walker, manege with excellent surface and YO on site who provides extra services, transport and will check sick horses through the night. Bedding and hay is delivered also.

£50 pcm for grass livery, £100 with a stable. I have my own fields but most people have theirs out in the mare / gelding herds. No arena but there's grazing fields available to ride in most of the year. Excellent hacking - can go out for hours barely touching a road. Essex-Herts border.

It’s going to be pretty area dependant, but southern cotswolds, the 3 main DIY commercial yards in my area: 1 is £35pw, 2 are £50pw.
All include straw and hay/haylage and have arena, walker and turnout

I wouldn’t be in a rush to keep a horse at the £35/week yard, however there are certainly worse out there. Both the others are good solid but not fancy places.

£30/week..stable and own small paddock, outdoor arena..limited hacking. I’ve paid £45/weekfor stable and field no off-road hacking and no arena..but that was short lived. Stirlingshire.

currently paying £60pcm for grass livery or £110 for true DIY stabled (running water, on-site services if needed, basic but small lit school and pretty good roadwork hacking). That is Cheshire/Staffordshire border.

Paying £90 a month DIY. Stable and grazing and school. It's an ex dairy farm, no maintenance and takes, DIY to a whole new level. Horse is settled and I have some good freinds there. That and its, a, 2min drive from home.

Around £160 to £250 pcm around here (Surrey) usually includes a school ('farm' livery isn't really a thing around here)

Yup, and in the furthest NW corner of the county you'd need £25 a week for pretty rubbish DIY, average £35pw for stable and grazing with no arena, £45 to £50++ if arena available. Bedding and fodder extra.
Extra for box parking at most places too.

I was looking at yards recently, quoted prices were 190-220 for a stable per month. However the ones I was looking at had nice facilities and were fairly close to London - around Claygate/Chessington area. So would expect to pay less going further out, and for reduced facilities.

Goodness I wasn’t paying £55 a week a looooong way from London! Becoming apparent that despite being a lovely yard it was still very expensive

Our yard is £31 per week, turnout 365, 40 x 40 all weather floodlit arena, 200 acres off road riding, solarium, hot wash, cctv, etc etc etc, and can’t fill spaces! 🤷‍♀️

In the South West. Currently paying £150pcm for group turnout and stable, two arenas (one 20x40 and one closer to 30 x 60), use of XC schooling field in the summer and very good off road hacking.

Some of these prices really are quite depressing. Doesn't seem to have been any inflation over the last 10 years, makes me wonder why people bother to offer DIY. the upkeep/ running costs of facilities would swallow most of that. Then you have the hassle of dealing with people.
I was charging £25 a week DIY for stable, storage and field back in mid 90s, out onto hackingwith no roadwork.

Dog and cattery prices have gone up but not horse parking!

Warwickshire/West Mids border. Large yard with indoor school (lunging room only), large outdoor school, loads of jumps/dressage markers, super post and rail/mains electric fenced paddocks, washbox, solarium (£1 per use) and indoor horse walker. Large barn, secure tack rooms, large DIY feed room, plenty of storage space. One free either turn out or bring in per day (no feet/leg washing). Breakfast (owner makes up) fed, hay fed (owner makes up) lunch time and last thing at night. £44.00 per week trailer 45p per day on top (worked out per calendar month). We have to supply our own bedding and hay/haylage.

I pay around £240-£260 per month depending on whether I have extras such as the horse brought in/turned out at the weekends as I like to have a lie I. Plus of cost any mandatory wormers we all have at the same time as part of our worming programme.

This is coming up to my 13th year at the place (not continuous) and I love it.

£27.50 per week for stable, group turnout, 20x40 outdoor (poorly lit but it passes) and trailer parking. We have to have the yard haylage which is £15 a week in winter for ad lib but as they still have fairly decent grass most of the year they don't eat much. It works out expensive for haylage but overall I think it's fairly good value.

It's the top end of average for the area. Two big DIY livery yards have closed down here in the last 18 months but there still seems to be enough spaces to go round.

.

Guess it depends on how much you horse eats but when I had to buy in haylage for my horse in the winter as he couldn't eat the yard hay, it cost me twice as much as £15 a week 10 years ago.

Yards round here that include hay/haylage are probably about £10 a week more but that is all year round so £15 a week for only some of the year is no worse.

£150 p/m for DIY - herd grazing, stable & storage, hay inc. through winter and facilities on site

Because they also have fairly decent grass all year and are only in overnight in winter they don't eat that much. 12 horses get through 2 round bales a week - so YO is effectively getting about £90 per bale. I get that we're paying for storage and the convenience but when friends pay about £35 a bale it smarts a bit! I try to look at it spread over the whole year to soften the blow. Overall I think it's still fairly good value.

I pay £27 a week per horse. This is for stable, use of own fields, 20 x 40 manège, storage and use of on site farm tracks.
I think that’s a bargain to be honest. We buy hay and shavings separately but all provided by YO. Storage is a tack room, use of barn (pretty much as much space as you want) and area outside your stable. I also have a spare stable that I keep stuff in as we are on reduced numbers now with only 4 of us.
We are left to our own devices so day to day maintenance is done by us- I spend a lot of time hand raking manège when the quad is broken and fixing fencing but it doesn’t bother me at all. Me and the three other liveries are good friends (we’ve known each other for 20+ years) and take great care of the place. We look after it like it were our own yard and YO goes away a lot as she knows everything will be looked after (she is fabulous, we love her to pieces).
