BASTARDS...hope they receive a good hiding!!!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to engage with my ideas.

I completely agree with AMC that they need to understand that what they did was wrong. I think that is absolutely crucial and probably the key to why children who are seriously cruel to animals become adults who are seriously cruel to other people. If they don't understand why causing entirely unnecessary suffering to a defenceless and innocent animal and if doing it makes them laugh instead of throw up, then they're not likely to understand why they shouldn't do the same to human beings.

I am not sure that beating them up or locking them up in an overcrowded prison system is going to help them understand why what they did was wrong (or killing them for that matter, which I appreciate you did not suggest JM07, but other people did in reply). I don't even think their background is a justification for what they did (if indeed they came from a deprived background), but it could be an insight into why they behave as they do and could therefore help change their behaviour.

I have a concern about how these young people had access to a gun. If they come from families with legal guns, then surely they have been trained from a young age how to use and not misuse them. The 14 year old cannot be named as this is the usual practice with juvenile offenders, they can only be named if the judge deems that they are of sufficient risk to people to so do. I hope it is not too late to change the way these lads think, but sadly think it will be for the 18 year old, who apparently believes that all other beings are secondary to him and are there for his amusement and use as he wishes. It would be little surprise if he treated people in the same manner

Apparently ( rumour and not confirmed) the one lad broke into his fathers gun cabinet and took the gun. Imagine he had been brought up knowing how one should handle a gun, but then again you would think a vets son (again rumour I know) would grow up to respect animals
