Hi All,

I am considering purchasing a bates GP saddle for my TB. He's actually quite a wide horse for a TB and doesn't have particularly high withers. I just wondered if anyone here has one for their TB and what you think of it? Is it a comfy saddle for the rider too?

Thanks

I bought a new Bates dressage for my TB a few months ago. It sits better on her than any other saddle I've tried. Position seemed a bit strange for me to start with but got used to it - really comfy saddle.

i have the caprilli cc one and i love it, i had the wintec version previously and really liked it so when i got my new horse i thought i would treat myself but was worried that bates wouldn't fit my TB but the saddle fitter was very pleased with the fit especially because he changes shape quite a bit so with the changeable gullets it does make life easier. mine is quite high withered and the saddle fitter did say that if his back looks a little under defined that the pommel can get a little close to the withers, but then that can happen with any saddle

I have Bates saddles for my Tb's and they're very useful as the rehabs out of racing change shape so much in the first couple of years re-training. Plus for my very croup-high gelding the panel shim inserts help level the saddle.

I've got one for my chunky tb, it's a nice saddle but I wouldn't get another saddle with cair. If you're buying second hand, make sure you check the panels to see if they feel uniformly soft, if not, it's probably got one or more flat air bags. They are replaceable, cost around £150 to get them replaced.

Thanks guys, that's put my mind at rest a little. I currently have a Wintec 500 and I have grown to dislike it, I find it hard and uncomfortable and it tips me forward. It also seems to turn up at the back which causes it to bounce on my horses back slightly so no good for him at all. I have been assured by a saddle fitter that the newer Bates saddles have a different shape to the old Wintec so hopefully it will fit nicely :)
