Bates saddles?

I have the GP - love it.

Have sat on the jumping saddle - horrid.

Really? Why horrid?

They are very popular. Mine is the momentum, is a nice saddle, but suited to someone long from hip to knee

Yes - exactly - which is one of the reasons why my friend chose this saddle.

I'm a bit of a short arse.......

I found it very flat, and hard. But then I did hack out in it - rather than jump in it......

I have the close contact caprilli jump saddle.

I love it to jump in but yeh prob wouldnt suit endurance rides!!! I find it confortable though and great to jump in! My YO has one she rotates round her sjers and she swears by them. I like the lack of knee blocks (although obv these can be added/removed) as i really dont like being pinned into position.

I haven't ridden in a Bates since I came to England (about 27 years ago). But they were always hard. First thing we did with a new Bates saddle was ride out in it in a downpour and let it et VERY wet. The soaked it in Neatsfoot oil and let it dry by natural warmth. Made all the difference!
