Hello,

This is the first saddle I have bought, so please bear with my mindless rambles!! I have just ordered a Bates Caprilli Close Contact jumping saddle (i have used a friends on my boy so I know its comfy for both of us), and it has just dawned on me that I am not sure what size the gullet will be (i'm assuming medium...)
Will it be easy to call up a registered saddler and just have it tweaked? or due to the changable gullet system is this not possible??

A cheese straw for helping :)

It will come with a medium, you can buy other gullets online. (i personally would stear clear of ebay as a friend of mine got on off there and it wasnt genuine and wasnt suitable for the saddle.) If your not sure on width im sure a saddler who deals with wintec and bates would be able to help :)

Do you know what gullet your horse already uses? If not, its easy enough to unscrew it & have a look, and check which colour it is :) Then you can just go to your local tack shop & pick up the right one! They also do a measuring-thingy (technical term that!) which will help you get the right one if you aren't sure.

If you're still a bit uncertain, I'd give a saddle fitter a call anyway, but be aware that they probably will charge you extra for new gullets/fitting the gullet themselves!!

Enjoy your saddle - I love my Bates Caprilli's! :D

Agree with this - my 2nd hand bates off ebay came with a non-wintec gullet. In time, it stretched, and snapped the tree on my saddle in one place! So definitely always buy Wintec gullets :)

Just take your saddle along to any registered master saddler and they should be able to sort it out for you! For a small fee they will come and fit it to your horse correctly aswell!
I actually had to wait for the next generation bates to come out before I could get a saddle to fit my poor horse! No other makes come close to the fit he has now though :D

Hi I have just bought a wintec for the little man and the saddler came out checked saddle fitted new gullet and checked over it again, showed me how to check that it wasn't pinching or too big for him etc all for £40 (I had to purchase extra gullet on top of this) which was fab. A small fee to know that your doing no gamage ti their backs :)
