I need some new stirrup leathers to match my new saddle. I like the look of the Bates types leathers with the nylon core and leather outer. Just wondered if the leather wears quickly on these? Any other reconmendations? I need black english leathers that are quite short as I have short legs!

Do you mean the non-stretch ones? If so I had an albion pair and they only lasted a year, the leather wore really quickly and they couldn't be repaired.... (cost about £50). Like the non-stretch idea and so my local saddler made me a pair with english leather, reinforced with webbing and they cost £40 and have been great. Had them made the length and style I wanted in the right colour and were much cheaper and lasted longer than the Albion ones - top result!

got 2 pairs and love them

they don't stretch and the leather is really nice too. If I remember correctly Bates do them in different lengths?
What is your new saddle like?

We've had Bates leathers for 4 years & used almost daily & they haven't stretched & there are no real signs of wear. They are fairly expensive but they do the job well. I bought mine from Ebay as they were considerably cheaper than the tack shops...... saved about £20.

i had a pair that the leather face wore through on in just under 12 months , used about 5 times per week , bates exchanged them , had new pair about 0 months , no problems so far

I had the Amerigo ones and used them daily for about 3 yrs, OH now uses them daily on his saddle (I now have single dressage leathers) and they are still as good as new - weren't cheap in the fiorst place though - about £68 I think.

Friend bought Bates ones around the same time and they wore out really quickly
