Hi guys, I live in New Zealand and am seriously considering getting a Bateson Ascot float and am after opinions from those who have or have had one. In New Zealand we do have quite a few gravel roads so if anyone has experience with these floats on gravel I would like to know how you think they cope, I'm imaging most roads if not all in The UK are tar sealed so maybe this isn't an issue for you guys? Lastly if anyone could give me the internal measurements of the tack locker that would be great, I am a bit concerned it will be too small for the stock and western saddles that me and my friends mostly ride in.

Hi,
I have one and I absolutely love it. I do have to drive over gravel every time I use it and have had no problems.
I will take a measuring tape up with me ... I know I have not had any problems with standard saddles but I am not sure that a stock or Western would fit, but lets see!

If it helps, the horses all seem to love it, I think it gives a very smooth ride. It is light, airy and inviting, and I particularly love the fact that it has heat reflective paint.

I also have one and really like it. My last horse wouldn't go near an IforWilliams but loved our Bateson. I'm not sure that a western/stock saddle would fit in the tack locker, my standard GP saddle just about fits... It doesn't have a roof vent, but there is a vent under the front "window" (above the tack locker) which means there is ventilation going in even if all the doors are shut fully. Afraid I can't really give much experience driving on gravel, but have never had a problem on dirt/farm track type roads, so can't think it would be too much of an issue...

A western saddle won't fit in the tack locker. I have a Bateson, my friend has Western saddles, they will not fit. Having said that, I don't actually use the locker at all!!

Maybe the Deauville would be better as the saddles aren't restricted by a box? I do love the idea of a lockable cupboard, I mostly use Australian Stock Saddles which shouldn't be much bigger than a dressage saddle, would dressage saddles fit in the Ascot tack box?

I actually use the tack locker to store poo clearing stuff! Tack goes in the car.

Mine has 2 opening windows at the front - I think one is standard but you can spec an additional one. You also get ventilation from the big front window as it has a gap at the bottom.

OK another couple of questions, do you think I should get the side sliding windows for a little extra air and light? I will also probably sleep in it so not sure if the 1 window at the front will cut it. Also I was thinking about a stallion guard but I see there is a couple of metal bars at the front, do you think a horse could reach round that to bite the other horse?
