Ok, have decided to go for the Bateson Deauville trailer, but wondered what opinions were on the Boston option - with the American style doors and pull out ramp?

Quite like the idea as it would make the trailer more versatile - anyone got one or used one?

Many thanks

The doors do make the trailer more versatile. You can have a pallet dropped into the trailer from a forklift if you want. The pull out ramp can come detached, it happened to me but most of the time you tend not to use it & get the horse to just step up & in. The floor level is quite low & it's easy for the horse to do.

I've got an Ascot with the doors and love it! Really good to load youngsters etc in as the doors make it hard for them to skip round and if you have the rampo down it's only small and not daunting, noisy, hollow etc.

Actually had an incident where a BIG youngster had a fit in the trailer as we were leaving the yard and managed to turn around (not the trailer fault by the way, and amazingly no damage was done to horse or trailer!), and if it wasn't for the doors I don't know how we're have got him out!!! If it had been a ramp it would have been SOOOO damgerous!

I have the bateson boston with the barn doors, love it, the horses don't seem to think twice about the step up, and never have to use the ramp, another thing I like about the batesons is the front ramp is on the near side,

I have a bateson with the ordinary ramps and have to say it's great. My big ID mare hates trailers and had to be sedated and pushed in to one in an emergency trip to the vet a few years back. However, with the bateson she goes straight in and travels very well now. Which ever you choose i think they are the best.

T_Z or Galaxy, can you tell me if the doors can be fastened back once open to stop them flapping about if it is windy? Ta

They pin back onto rubber stoppers..... I can't best think how to describe them.

I haven't had a problem with them shutting themselves in wind. You have to give them quite a tug to get them off the stopper....

This is the first time I have ever heard anything positive about this style ramp/doors. A friend has one where she works and she absolutely detests it, as do the horses! I believe that she refuses to travel the horses in it, but uses her lorry instead. However, I too have a Bateson Deauville, but with the standard ramp and I love it!! The horses travel beautifully in it, it tows fantastically, it's quiet and the suspension is great! I used to have an Ifor and I will never, ever go back to having one (I've had a 505 and a 510) and having travelled in the back of the Bateson and the Ifors, the ride is SOO much better in the Bateson! I also really rate the left front unload!

She said something about it feeling unstable - I can't remember exactly what she said. I'll send her a message and ask her - she's a member on here (doesn't post much) so I'll see if I can get her to respond to this post.
