Has anyone got one/used one and what do you think?

Looking at the derby as it is only 670 unlaiden however I have never seen one in the flesh and the photos online are not that detailed!

Has anyone any opinions of them good or bad?

Also does anyone travel a horse in a double without the partition?

Thanks

I travelled my 16hh horse without the partition.

Or two ponies.

I changed to a front unload because the horse was a bit difficult to unload safely from the rear as he rushed out and I was on my own so no one to hold him for me.

He travelled well in the Derby though.

I have a deauvill, love it my 17.1 travels beautifully in it and he was not a good loader as a baby got him at 9 months, now more than happy to walk in by him self just throw the rope over his neck he walks in I put ramp up. He has the partition out to give him more room to spread and balance. I got mine secondhand and wanted a bateson as they have independent suspension tbats supposed to be better than other trailers at the time not sure about now! But yes love it and both this big horse and my 2yo travel very well in it.

I'm also considering either a deauville or ascot and would be interested in hearing of experiences of the barn doors? Always had Ifors before but seriously fed up with the build quality and customer service!! Batesons seem to have good reviews unless anyone can enlighten me otherwise 😊

My ex-YO has the Deauville with barn doors and I'm in the process of buying an Ascot with them. My horse loves the step-up; there's no ramp to have a battle on and she's in the trailer before she realises :P. I love them. Only problem is they don't come up for sale with barn doors second hand very often so if you don't want to wait you'll be looking at £5k for the Deauville new or £6k for the Ascot. Still cheaper than the Ifor with better build quality.

I've had the Ascot for years. Love it although its looking a bit old nowdays so would love a new one - will definately go for another Bateson when I can afford it. Brilliant trailers IMO. I would choose the American back door next time though (Boston doors) purely because it's a bit annoying not being able to close one back door (like you can with Ifors) if travelling a young horse, with our usual one solid fold-up door. I have travelled with no partition and quite often with only the front half of the partition which works well for "fallers" too.

That's great to hear thank you 😊 my pony gets stressy in a trailer and has only travelled in a lorry. I rehomed her from WHW and they do lots of loading and travelling practice before they're rehomed. They said in the trailer she didn't mind loading but got stressed with the noise of the trailer (ramps on ifors all seem to have the same noise when raised) I've done practice with her and she's been fab and doesn't mind the ramp going up but as soon as it clonks she gets upset 😔 I also like the barn doors as they go to the top like a lorry ramp and she'd definitely benefit from that I think 😊 do you have the sliding windows at the front (if I sell my ifor I may be able to scrape enough to get a new bateson and can't decide if windows at front would be good for her to see out of?) Sorry for all the questions 😊

I had a Deauville for years, what a great trailer & it really held its price well. I only sold it because I began staying away at shows so needed living & needed a lorry. The lorry has cost me a fortune but the trailer cost me nothing to maintain really.
