Older (15-20 years) but sound double Bateson with alloy floor, all in working order

versus

Less old (10-15 years) IW 505, also sound with alloy floor, circa 35% more expensive than the Bateson and twice as far away.

Choc chip biscuits on offer…

Bateson are supposed to be good trailers and I think they might give a more comfy ride suspension wise than Ifor. So I wouldnt be afraid of the Bateson. Soundness more important than age (until you get to impossibly ancient).

Thanks, both. l&m, that's what I thought I'd heard re suspension. We always had boxes and Rices when I was younger, and I'm familiar with Ifors through very generous friends helping me out recently, just don't think I've ever used a Bateson. Couldn't give a monkey's if it's orange with purple spots and 20 years old as long as it goes safely!

Any more opinions and tales welcome :)

I have a Bahill!! Sorry had to get excited there, there's not many left!

Fabulous lightweight trailer. Was in manufacture in the 80s so they are old. Mine is roughly 25-28years old. Really like it, we had to get brakes and everything done in it which was difficult to find fittings etc without completely re-doing it. Tows really well and has a low ramp which is more enticing.

Good good :) The Bateson has gone, sob and sod's law; so as it stands I think the Bahill therefore leads? Hopefully won't need an overhaul and told it's been serviced and all is fine but will probably get it in for a service soon anyway to be safe provided it's ok on viewing.

The only downside might be that Bahill went out of business some time ago so getting any parts if ever required might be an issue

True, but luckily I'm not looking for a forever example just now - if it goes fine for a year then hopefully I'll be reviewing what I've got then. Providing it's as in good order as it's supposed to be(!) we should be ready to roll...

Yeah, the guy that serviced mine had difficulty getting some cable for the brakes but he phoned around some contacts and got it so there's stuff out there somewhere!
