Shh!! Don't tell the spooky pony, but it's BATH TIME for him later this week!

What shampoos do you all recommend? Do you splash out on horse shampoo at the saddlery, or do you buy the cheapest own-brand for people you can find? Was thinking of going by the supermarket and picking up something cheap...

P.S. from the spooky pony:

I'm in pony jail again! The Carrot Lady left for 5 days, and when she got back this morning, she accused me of expecting twin foals!!

She's crazy!

I'm a boy, duh! I did get rid of my headcollar while she was gone, which meant she couldn't grab me with the "stuff-a-carrot-in-pony's-mouth-with-one-hand-and-snap-on-leadrope-with-other-hand" trick. I made her run after me lots.

She even had to get a friend to help!

Have used tescos apple scented before on Gem, she seemed quite impressed by the fact it smelled of apples and that seemed to distract her from the normally traumatic experience of being bathed!

Tresemme - usually has an offer - 2 for £5. Use the stuff for 'removing buildup and pollution' . I don't really think they had the sort of 'buildup' and 'pollution' in mind which I use it for, but it shifts the stuff really well!

Smells nice as well.

I use the horse shampoos for his body and some times peoples shampoo for his tail - he has a bottle of Sheer blonde for mane and tail! Either uses horse shampoo for chestnut tones before shows and about one in every three baths (he gets washed alot in the summer to keep flys off and him handsome) I use the medicate horse one called demorline (i cannot spell) to prevent mites etc.

I think I may spoil him....

I use baby shampoo on normal horses but i have to buy shampoo from the vets for my gelding as he has very sensitive skin.

I use Dermoline insecticidal shampoo as I know that if they've got any mites that I haven't spotted, it is more than likely going to get rid of them. A bottle seems to go quite a long way too.
