Tomorrow will hopefully be the ponies first photo shoot, and too make sure he looks his best to Market the product ( some one on here so want it to be the best it can) I want to bath him.

It is not going to be cold but no sun shining on his back.

What is the best way to handle a tapid bathing? Hose pipe and suck it in, or buckets of Luke warm water, or is there another way to go?

And best way to dry him off please before the dreaded plaiting lol

Lol thanks, I was hoping hose would be fine, but we have all, except for Levi been in coats today burgh.

I have got some baby oil for his eye area to bring the black out, will this show on camera?

I am, as you can maybe tell, excited and on a blind panic !!!!!!! :)

So scared of letting the product maker down!

HEHE I am no expert, dunno lol!! I use baby oil in the mane and tail to make it as shiny as plastic! My dogs get the cold hose all year round... you may want to wait for someone nicer to respond lol.

Seriously tho wash away this time of year, and you can always take for a walk to dry off! Be very careful about what you do with him while hes wet or the little buggar will roll! Good Luck XX

lol ohhh as said in earlier post they are horses - use bloody hose at this time year lol but hey nice you are caring and thinking so my comments are tongue in cheek - use hose scrubb scrubb scrubb rinse and scrape off what can then a fleece or sweat rug but only light till nearly dry and then look and think mmmmmm nice lol and hey good luck with photo shoot hun xxxxx
devonshire i use baby oil for lasses sweetitch(and it works with a fly rug ( was accused of burning lass on here lol)) = mmmmm shiny mail and tail he he he he e he :)

HAHA Always used it on our TB's dark tail and it literally comes up like plastic you could see your face in it! Hes since passed, and nope he wasn't burnt to death! lol...

Used it on the cobs triple tail which coils into ringlets, combed it through and detangled it in mins, and put it on the baby on his first outting out hunting, and I tell you what he was the best smelling horse there!! XX

My horse hates being washed in cold water, so I have to use warm, and invariably the day before a show it is freezing cold and/or raining. So I wash and rinse in warm water, and immediately cover him with towels and rub dry as much as possible and when completely finished put on a wicking rug and maybe leg wraps. When pretty dry spray the quarters, neck and shoulders with show shine and put on a cotton rug and leave this on until the last minute. I have found that this makes the coat really shiny.

Thanks all , I am really getting nervous now ad do not want to let the HHo member down.

Me thinks I more nervous as now I have to get daughter clean clean for a full length shot !!!!! Any tips on this :D

Yep can't add more than above. Important thing to note is that people often bath in warm water and leave the horse to dry, which is worse than bathing with the hose. Bathing in warm water opens the pores and dilates the blood vessels, then as the wet horse cools they could develop a chill, much better to start off with cold water.
And yes I would also do the daughter with a cold hose too :D

:D :D :D should I be worried that was not as concerned with the abI've post lol I had given that some thought :D

Not at all when I've got back from a muddy walk/visit to the yard and child is muddier than dogs I too have considered it!!

If it's really cold, I take up a bucket of super hot water with a teatowel in it. Then, wearing thick rubber gloves, rub all over with the teatowel very quickly so he doesn't get totally wet to the skin, rinsing when the teatowel loses it's hotness. You'll be suprised how much grease and dust and gunk comes out!

Thats so true, bathe with a cold hose and when the horse is drying off its only going to get warmer haha!!!!

Our lad was a sweaty betty the other day and he got the cold hose all over, carefully at first so he didn't have a shock lol.. he stood motionless totally enjoying it! XX

Washing a horse in cold water is fine unless it's baltic, but I never wash over the kidney's to prevent them from getting a chill. Even the racehorses don't get washed over their kidneys when they are back from work and super sweaty!

Straw underneath a cooler is also good after a bath to keep them nice and cosy and preventing chills.
