A little clueless on what is best, I need something to charge a small amount of electric fencing what is the best option? By small amount I mean around 40 metres

Just bought a hotline shrike, powered by d cell batteries, seems to be doing the job so far.

IME you can't do better than a Hotline; lovely little leccy fencers that just crack on and do the job.
They're so damn good that one day they'll put themselves out of business......... but hopefully not for a while yet!
Handy for Devon people as they have a depot at Newton Abbot which will take stuff for repairs (ignore the Jobsworth git who takes phone messages in the repair dept - as they're actually really helpful people!!).

Fencemaster cp 500 and a Halfords leisure battery.
Fencemasters can be services and repaired and they will also supply spare parts.
Have had mine for years and years.
