Batteries for fence energizer....

It is a leisure battery I need isn't it? Can you get smaller ones or is the only option the big heavy ones you need to move in a wheelbarrow?

I use an old car battery which then needs charging about once a month. Not ideal but cheap!

Get a solar powered energizer, mine is super light weight and only cost about £130 from Amazon. A good leisure battery was about £70 last time I bought one and they weigh about the same as a Shetland. They last well initially but do degrade over time, charging mine in winter was a nightmare as I have to try and wheel it down a muddy track. The solar power one I carried back by hand whilst leading two ponies last time.

You need a Leisure Battery, which you can purchase from Halfords. Car batteries are not suitable, because once they completly discharge they will not fully charge again. Buy 2 at a time so that you always have one spare ready for use. Also buy a battery charger.

I have a leisure battery and a solar recharge panel attached. Once fully charged it keeps the battery topped up nicely, depending on your connections and if there's anything like vegetation touching the tape etc

I have just bought a new leisure battery for my electric fence. It is a Numax and cost near enough £100. Weight is 17.5kgs so heavy but at 76 I can still move it and carry it short distances. I have two and keep swapping them.

I use a little solar panel and tiny charger on my chicken fence. People use the same to keep cattle and deer off their silage bales. Are they not enough zap for horses?
I can’t offer a pic until daylight. It was about £130 I think.

i just use ordinary car battery

I use the Argibatt batteries from Tanya batteries. Think my last one was about £50-60. They’re heavy but not huge, similar to a car battery size wise.

We have a mix. Had some expensive leisure batteries stolen so don’t bother now. Mostly we have smaller leisure batteries or old car ones. Use fence tester, when the power is low swap for a charged one.

Probably depends on how long a run of fence it is expected to power.

I just use car batteries. We've just changed the batteries on the horsebox so I no have 2 huge lorry batteries, but they are a pain for moving around the field.

One of mine was leaning on the fence, he has to have a rug on so he wasn't getting a zap. But then I put a bit of fence tape around the chest bit of the rug and he isn't leaning any more...
