Looking forward to the warmer weather, I could do with a couple of stable fans. Unfortunately we don't have mains, so need to be battery operated. Our stables are wooden and get so hot. Did anyone have any real success with fans? Not really wanting to blow warm air round!

The only decent ones I have seen is at a friend's and she has the big industrial ones in each stable run on electric, I'm not sure how they would fair on a battery but her stables are wooden and they are really powerful.

Bought on amazon I think

Funnily enough, I was googling this exact same thing yesterday. I tried googling solar and then rechargeable battery fans. The issue is that most say they are for extraction (although some say either) and most are no bigger than 25cms which is not going to cut it. Ideally you want 40cms or more, which I couldn't find any, it is quite bizarre. I have seen some in barns in America on YouTube channels but assume these are electric. I am starting to think along the lines of asking the YO if I could plug in to her electric (there is one plug point in the barn) and run a very long cable to my horse's stable and run it that way.
I would prefer an independant system like solar or rechargeable batter but for what they are, I haven't found a match. I will be following this thread with interest.

I have 3 of the biggest most powerful batter powered fans I could find. I cant remember exactly but I think on full power they run 5 hours and then need charging so are not a full time solution. They do also work running off a battery pack.

I used them in the lorry and when I had professionals when it was very very hot. I dont need them in on the lorry when moving (natural draft) or parked in shade. But in high temperatures, parked in sun, or if terrible traffic or breakdown are a nice back up.

5200mAh -Portable Fan - Leipple Mini Stroller Fan 5200mAh -Portable Fan Handheld Clip On Fan Lasts for 20hrs with Flexible Tripod, 4 Speeds, 360° Rotatable -USB Fan Personal Desk Fan Battery Operated Fan for Car Seat,Camping : Amazon.co.uk: Baby Products

Thank you but how many would I need for a stable? I've got 2 horses. Are they really strong enough?

Thank you will look. Did you have to use all 3

Sorry pressed too early!! Thank you. How many would I need for 2 stables though? Are they really strong enough?

I used three in my lorry. Which enabled me to circulate directly over the single travelling horse. I also misted the horse and covered in wet cooler rug. The air then helped stay cool. Yes I think fairly effective.

I used two in the stable (TBH stable wasnt very successful as needed charging and horse wasnt always in front of fan, bigger area etc.) I cant see more powerful and still battery operated.

I'm struggling to find anything powerful enough, but thank you.

Either of those would be your best bet, but I think you'd probably need both or more than one of each per stable depending how its built and enclosed etc

The first link runs of car cigarette lighter cable. Doesnt come with a battery.

The second link looks good. It is 8,000mAh compared to the link I posted being 5200mAh. Assuming you have a way to attach it to the ceiling.

The first is 12v, its easy to get the attachment to run it off a battery, you can get a solar panel for about twenty quid to keep the battery charged, or a battery pack known as a solar generator for some reason, could be bought and would be handy for charging phones and using a kettle etc as well at home in case of a power cut.

The other one would have to either be taken home and charged every night, or rigged up to a battery/battery pack the same way, which is probably what I would do if there's no mains available.

Theres lots of workarounds

No they are permanently fixed to the top of the walls they are the big round silver fans I don't know how to add a link, I'm sure they are on amazon.

Put where would you put them if they are portable?

on a chair outside the stable door with the door open and just a stable bungee across the door was what I was thinking!

Last year, I have seen people using a machine that made mist, possibly something else to explore. The horses certainly seemed to enjoy it.

I don't think that will make a huge difference and it's a huge faff, would you have to take the fans with you?

I honestly think mine are always cooler left out but I do have shade patches in my field so I understand if you literally have none.

the horses are at home so I’d just take them outside and plug in. We have loads of trees here so yes they will out most of the time but I do like them in sometimes out of the flies.

Thats OK then I understand mine are at home and in extreme heat they come in during the hottest hours, I'm lucky my stables are brick but they do get hot when the sun comes round early afternoon, good idea though if you can move the fans around sounds ideal.

I have no shade in the field either. So my other option would be to sort some shade out in there. They seemed absolutely fine last year, even on the hottest days. Will look into shelters and fans!!
