Does anyone use a Baucher Bit?
I’m considering trying my boy in one but want to see people’s opinions on them.
I know every horse is different but I’m just looking to get feedback on what people think.

I have an 8yr old New Forest, I broke him at 4 in just a happy mouth snaffle and walked him out once or twice a week for a year.
When he was 5 and started proper work, I had him in a sweet iron fixed ring snaffle.
As things progressed, it because obviously that he was very sensitive in his mouth. I tried lots of different but but never really found anything he accepted.
I then got a bit fitter out and after trying many bits, he settled in a NS turtle top which he had now had for around 2 years, but I just don’t think it’s ‘the one’.
I have been reading up about the Baulchers and it says they are for horses with sensitive mouths that don’t like too much going on, and they are designed so the lift in the mouth so they don’t put much pressure on the tongue.
This seems like it may be a good option to try and ive been looking at the one Aster Bits do in the titanium.

Any feedback appreciated as it’s a minefield!!
 
My New Forest likes a single jointed sweet iron bit, we have a hanging cheek/Baulcher for dressage but 99% of the time she has a gag. She is happiest in the gag.

I tried a Baulcher on my old TB and thought I was going to die, he hated it so much I couldn’t touch his mouth.
 
Small pony is in a peanut link hanging cheek, as she likes a bit more stability but I still wanted the clarity of aids that comes with a jointed bit.
She goes quite happily in it, I swapped to a rubber covered version when her young rider started to use the reins properly, just to minimise any problems if/when she gets caught in the mouth.
No idea about titanium mouthpieces, I'm too cheap for that sort of thing!
There's no harm trying one, although I'd be inclined to see if you can borrow one/buy cheap to check he does like that kind of bit ring before getting a more spendy version!
 
We have one pony in one - hanging cheek French link. She is extremely fussy in the mouth in anything else, but likes this. So this it is!
 
My Welsh Sec C has a Neue Schule Performance Pony Tranz Baucher. I got it 13 years ago when I found she used fight against a snaffle and I wanted to try something different that was still dressage legal I feel I can communicate really well with her and she goes happily in it.
They do seem to have doubled in price though
 
My mare is very sensitive - most bits make her mouth sore and she has to wear bit guards but she loves her French link D ring snaffle! I would definitely recommend giving one a try.
 
my old boy went really well in that bit. He was originally in a 3 ring gag on the bottom ring but I swapped to a slotted kimblewick and then a micklem bridle and the hanging cheek for dressage and he loved it. He had scars through his tongue and I think the combination of the micklem and the hanging cheek kept the bit still and from putting too much pressure on his tongue.
 
I used one on my big dressage horse to do dressage as I struggled holding him in a standard snaffle for BD- he is 17.2 I am 5’6. I got one of the comfy mouth version so it was thinner. I went from a complete BD novice to winning quest semis and 3rd and 9th st nationals in the first 9 months of starting BD. He was super strong in canter in a normal snaffle but it worked!

I am trialing a Sprenger RS Dynamic in eggbutt. He doesnt like movement or play and needs lateral support. We are switching from a verbindend. Tried the american dee-lite verbindend which had some really good upsides but he was still really coming behind the bit. The Sprenger is giving me some mixed results but general gist is after some steering issues upon our first attempt, we have figured it out. It is a hybrid between eggbutt and d-ring. I havent had nearly as many fights with him at his key napping spots and he hasn't (yet) curled behind the vertical to get what he wants....

Loose rings are a hard no.
Single jointed bits are a hard no as he leans on them.
Poll pressure is a no for him as well.
Need lateral support.
Doesn't like play.

My NF loves his NS turtle top baucher.

He was tricky to bit & I found it brilliant getting a bit fitter out. This is what my pony picked for himself!

Where are you? I’ve a few I’d be happy to let you try. I eventually got my very sensitive pony a titanium baucher. Yes very expensive but worth it to have a happy pony.

That would be amazing if you were near me, but I bet you are the other side of the country 😂
I’m in Dorset.
I have been reading up about the titanium lift Baulcher that Aster Bits does.
