As the title, does anyone know anything about him ?
Foaled in 1975 going by sportshorse data.
He is the great, great grandsire of my filly's unplanned foal.
His son, Dumas (1988), is the foal's grandsire.
I'm trying to get as much info as possible on my soon to be foal's breeding.
Thanks. :)

I used to be rider for the stud , Straloch. I also rode Dumas for his owner Sara Cooper.
Duplicate was also the sire of Fiona Bigwoods first Grand Prix horse Dance and Fly ( I think they changed his name)
He was a lovely stallion brought to the Uk by Gerhart Fichtner was was a director of breeding in the state stud in Germany.
He then set up the BBWA. Straloch was the only 100 day test station in the UK sadly no longer in operation.
Due in part with the Bavarian book sticking rigidly to using quite old fashioned lines.
Duplikat was old fashioned quite heavey in bone , and a little flat over the loins The Ridinghill stud Also stood a super old fashioned stallion from the Bavarian book (Dorian) but they had the idea to use TB mares and this worked really very well and has produced some super sport horses.
Dumas was a lovely stallion and was a versatile stallion, he jumped well but was a super dressage stallion, chestnut in colour about 16.2hh well proportioned stallion, he had a super temperament.

Thank you Partoow.
Unfortunately, my foal will have to be registered as "sire unknown", as he/she is the result of an unregistered colt (one of seven) getting to my 3 year old (reg) New Forest filly.
All of the colts are by either one of 2 stallions. Oliver, a big bay stallion who is by Dumas and out of a bay WB mare named Kaos. Or, Doopy, a smaller chestnut stallion also by Dumas but out of a chestnut TB mare called Troupy. Both of these stallions have excellent temperaments.
My foal will be able to be registered as a part bred New Forest, but unfortunately, the sire line will go unrecorded as I believe that none of the colts are registered.
It's great though to know more about my foal's great grandsire and great great grandsire. Thank you. :)

OP, if you were really fussed and could get hold of tail hair from both the stallions you could send off their tail hair, plus your foals tail hair and get all three DNA tested. That would give you the answer you want...

Wouldn't I need hair from the 7 colts ? One of these is my foal's sire.
I don't know how DNA testing works as I've never done this before.
Hair from the colts sires I'm guessing would prove which grand sire my foal has, but if the colts are not registered, wouldn't my foal's sire line still have to go unrecorded .

Ah sorry didn't read your post properly, yes if there are 7 prospective fathers rather than 2 your would need to get all 7 done. It was £40 a sample when I did it for my filly (I had covering cert from licenced stallion but they still verify if with the mare and foals DNA for SHB(GB)).

It would depend on the book you wanted to register with, you would have to ring and find out what their rules were. For example for SHB(GB) the sire has to be licenced by them so you wouldn't be able to register your foal in the full stud book with them even if you knew who the father was.

Thanks Polotash :)
I'm looking into registering this foal as a Scottish Sports Horse (or pony, depending on it's height).
The SSHS has an open studbook so they appear to cater for horses and ponies with only partial pedigrees as well as fully registered horses with breeding known (and verified) on both sides.
They have everything from a basic register for horses/ponies with unknown breeding, right up to their head studbook. :)

My mare is by Duplikat and I met him just a few months before he died. Anastasia on here had him retired at her mothers I believe. Pm her and I'm sure she'll have info for you.
