Ok, I know it's Dubarry Young Event Horse but it just doesn't have the same ring to it.
wink.gif

I know I won't get any sympathy for my less-than-ideal Burghley prep - a week in Grenada
cool.gif
, I have photos for anyone who'd like to see them.....no?
smirk.gif
- but my day before with Jupiter included an aversion to going near a crosspole as it had a monster blue barrel parked by it (four times
blush.gif
), bucking, bouncing and a few rounds of the Left/ Right Game (for those that haven't heard about Jupiter before, that's his idea of fun when landing over a fence, just before you've recovered your position
blush.gif
). Oh well, I could only hope that he'd be better the next day not worse.

We arrived in plenty of time and watched the final ten in the 5yo's, then set to polishing the fat, shiny one while all he wanted to do was eat, a true Baydale trait.

I got on to ride up to the warm-up arena and was lucky to get there as the Burghley deer were v scary, nearly as scary as the presence of Pippa, WFP, Bill Levett when I got there.
crazy.gif
Jupe was a bit dull warming up but I felt mildly inspired when the last upright sharpened him up - a lot!
shocked.gif

In we went and Jupe positively puffed out his chest and played to the audience, convinced that they were all there just to see him.
tongue.gif
He decided his usual problem with judge's cars had gone as he had bigger fish to fry: banners and people.
crazy.gif
Let's just say he was bright as a button and leave it at that shall we, as although we more or less did everything, it was rubber ball stylie with one mega spook. Bless him, he has the sense of humour of his big brother, HH, only without the discipline - plenty of time to sort that out though.

I breathed a sigh of relief as I left the arena and hoped that the rubber ball approach would carry through to the jumping. Off we set, a bit keen but good to 1 and 2, nice forward spot at 3, heading towards A end of the dressage arena - can you see where I'm going here? - and we nearly had a head-on with the guy going into the arena.
shocked.gif
I'd heard his buzzer go to start ages before but apparently he was circling to settle his horse just where I had to go to turn to a decent size oxer.
crazy.gif
We both politely did the "After you. No you go. No really, you go" thing, he said he'd go, circled again, then said "No, you go", so Jupe bounced back into action, pinged the oxer and round to the double. He just had the oxer in behind but was good out, then was delighted to go up a gear for the three xc fences. Big pats for the boy as I thought after his Shelford outing I might have over-cooked him and he'd be a shrinking violet (as if
smirk.gif
). Here's dad's vid, bit fuzzy, but note the camp headshake, a Baydale classic.
laugh.gif

Quick stand-up and trot-up for the confo judge, although for a horse that was shown as a youngster he'd somehow forgotten how to stand square.
mad.gif

I was really chuffed with him but got average, nay, less than average marks
frown.gif
: 24.5, 21.5 and 10. Hey ho, I'm happy with where he's at and particularly liked how he coped with the big occasion.

It was great to see kit279 and OH, Tricksy and her OH (photos to follow, he's fab at them
grin.gif
) and meardsall_millie was excellent company and a great help, other than when walking the course and I said "it's big, isn't it?" and she replied "I'm not saying anything!"
smirk.gif
Cocoa and mum's scrummy iced buns for those who made it this far.
smile.gif

Ooooo very jealous of Grenada, i'm still salavating over the brochures for next year and trying to make a decision!!!

It sounds like a very exciting day out for him and i'm sure he'll have learnt loads!!! I think he's gorgeous and looked fab but then sadly i wan't judging. With horses at his age though you really can't put too much on these competitions can you, they really do all mature at their own rate and if you're happy then that's the main thing.

I'll have an iced bun to go with my red wine ta,
smile.gif
smile.gif

What a lot to look at in the ring (and the dressage was very close!). He looks as if he had lots of fun! : - )

I took a few distinctly average photos of you (my OH takes fab photos too but unfortunately he was on hunger-induced strike
mad.gif
) that I shall dig out for you tomorrow. I thought Jup looked really mature for his age actually and coped very well with the flags, crowds and Mike Tucker MCing so very good pony and Specsavers for judges.. Sorry we had to dash off but OH was completely starving and was a bit pissy that I made him watch the stallion parade when we don't even have a mare ATM...

He looks fab, such a lot going on in that ring! I watched some of the 5yo class but had a course walk to go on so missed the 4yo class. Shame as would have liked to have seen you both.

i can't believe how close the dressage and sj are?!!! thats bonkers! and i've had second thoughts about attempting BYEH 5 year olds next year if thats what the 4 year old class looks like
shocked.gif

jupiter looks lovely and very well developed for his age...well done
smile.gif

AR - I don't know if he learnt loads but he did have lots of fun, as Hornby spotted.
wink.gif

Kit - I spotted that he was so famished he could barely stand up, but you did well to drag him there in the first place - good effort.
smirk.gif

diggerbez - it's quite an eyeful, isn't it?
shocked.gif
I thought he'd be ok as he was pretty indifferent when I did the Bramham qualifier which is quite buzzy.

Crikey, pony pile up!! What a good kid to put his jumping hat back on and crack on.... The judges all need glassed IMHO! I was surprised how much more rammed the place was for the 4yo's than in the 5yo's, although the atmosphere was pretty electric first thing...

Wahey for Jup's 5yo's next year (Lycetts, that is, not this quasi-showing pile up malarkey!!)

Sounds like a fab trip even if the judges didn't give him the marks he deserves!

That dressage is a little bit close isn't it? Clever pony for just getting on with it
grin.gif

How is HH btw?

deskbound - twas a bit busy, yes
crazy.gif
, but most seemed to cope surprisingly well with it. Thank goodness I avoided the pile-up as Jupe is short-coupled enough as it is.
wink.gif

teapot - HH is fine thanks, had a little holiday after Hartpury and feeling good now he's back in work. He's pleased his little squirt of a brother took the pressure off him for a while.
tongue.gif

Thanks Rosiefan, I think it was more that he was trying to reach grass or the polos in m_m's back pocket.
grin.gif

This Grenada holiday, was it organised by Saga?
grin.gif

He is so like his big Bros! well done, I think he did exceptionally well considering all the scary stuff plus his rider disapearing on holiday before his big occasion lol

smile.gif
look forward to his 5 year old reports next year.

i was watching from the far side and was a bit shocked that the other guy didn't have the presence of mind to stay out of your way when you were halfway round your sj! well sat and all that, shame though as it destroyed his rhythm and concentration i think.
frown.gif
frown.gif

he looked fab and as if he thought it was all great fun.
(i thought the course was big too!)

BBs - yeah, we weren't young and trendy enough to go somewhere nice like Vancouver.
frown.gif
Jupe didn't mind me going off as it meant he could take the mickey out of someone different for a week.

K - he wasn't that rhythmical or concentrating much before the near-crash, so it didn't matter much.
wink.gif
As long as he was forward-thinking and not over-awed by the atmosphere I was going to be happy with him.

Kat - yep, in his bouncy/bucky/tail-swishing stride
smirk.gif
...does that remind you of another horse?

God, I cannot believe the other rider did not just get clear out of the way when you were mid way through show jumping... he had not even started the test at that point
mad.gif
I think both you and Jup handled it beautifully though, that could have really upset some young horses so he is a credit to you to carry on as well as he did!

I think he looks really good and you ride him so quietly
smile.gif

Thistle, he's having a v long rest now as it's hunter time for me
crazy.gif
and he's done just enough this year to (hopefully) stand him in good stead for next year.

J_S - the other rider did apologise when we came out of the ring but hey, sh1t happens and he's not the kind of horse that would be too bothered.
smirk.gif
I was a bit
shocked.gif
when I saw the vid as he looks so big and grown-up now from the hairy swamp monster that came in from the field in April.
wink.gif

Great pics & report!

W told me yesterday of your head on crash! She said he went well considering everything going on & looks like it too! Mind your chaps are always laid back! It's a calorie saving effort!!

Look forward to next year & will book it off this time!

Here you go - believe it or not these are the best that cack-handed moi could manage. There are a few more of you disappearing out of the side of the photo, both the camera and I are rather slow on the uptake, I'm afraid
smile.gif

As an aside- where did you get his headcollar from? I bought mine from Tower Farm and they don't do them anymore and I can't find them anywhere (doesn't help not knowing what brand it is)

But what a beautiful horse, he moves nicely and handled the run in with the other rider well from the looks of it
smile.gif

k9h - PMSL at your "calorie saving" comment.
laugh.gif

T_H - so you manage to avoid me at Hartpury AND Burghley. It's ok, I can take a hint.
frown.gif

Kit - they're great, and you managed to get the only two of his butter-wouldn't-melt moments rather than any of the dozen yee-ha moments.
tongue.gif

Kat - I'm not keen on hospital food so hunting is NOT an option for Jupe.
smirk.gif

cripes that does look pretty large how big is BYEH supposed to be?... I think he looks very dapper and what a good boy not to get flustered by the 'bumper cars' incident! I like the camp head shake! he has attitude!
smile.gif

I'm at work so can't see the piccies but I sincerely hope that pictures of the 'hoof oiling person's' bottom haven't been plastered across HHO for all to see?
blush.gif

He is a clever pony though and knew exactly where the Polos were. He demanded one everytime he did something good (you know, standing still to have his toes painted, eating grass, being cute, etc
wink.gif
).

He was very well behaved and was convinced all of those people were there just to see him. He grew by at least a hand when he went in the ring!
laugh.gif

Whaddya mean you're not up for hunting? You on Jupes and me on Pops, we'll have a scream..... (or will we just be screaming?!)
crazy.gif
shocked.gif
grin.gif

Lovely pics! Well done, what an adventure for Jups!! He looks very pleased with himself for being such a grown up
smile.gif

Your groom is wearing a lovely top! My friend desperately wanted one of those on Sat - rushed to Musto to find they had sold out
crazy.gif
We'll blame you M_M

Hee hee - to be honest it's a wonder there was anything left in any of the stalls after I'd been round. I added up how much I spent this morning and have texted Baydale and Horsemad12 with the result. It's not pretty
blush.gif

Ha! did you buy up all the large green haynets, lovely short brown stud girths and Fal rugs???? All we could find was turkish carpets, cashmere coats and diamonds
blush.gif
Obviously the stuff you didn't swipe!
wink.gif

PM me your spend, it might make me feel smug about only spending £45 in Joules
