It might not be common knowledge that I'm a Yorkshire lass due to my complete lack of accent, but I am, so a trip "oop north" when Aske v kindly gave me a late entry was gratefully received.

We stopped off on the way to pick up provisions from Ma and Pa Baydale, Marty looking nervous (or gleeful,
confused.gif
it's so difficult to tell with horses, isn't it?
wink.gif
) about being taken back from whence he came, as we bought him from near Northallerton. OH and I power-walked the course, seeing one elimination, four stops and one fall on the way
crazy.gif
, then back to polish Marty and get him in dressage mode. Once I'd peeled his ears off the trailer roof - he could hear cross country happening
shocked.gif
- I got on and warmed up for my stressage, feeling like he was relatively amenable for him.

We went in and he is feeling so much more rideable with more self-carriage, but we just had a couple of cheeky monky moments: one was a trot to halt instead of to walk, the other a walk to canter instead of to trot, but at least he was on my aids.
tongue.gif
And the judge was smiley, probably more due to the fact I was the last of the day than anything else.

We got to the showjumping in plenty of time to see it resembled an Alton Towers ride, with every inch and contour of the arena being used....not great for a gobby 6yo who's still on his forehand.
frown.gif
The sj stewards v sweetly "bullied" us (their words, not mine) into getting a move on so they could get on with the far superior novice classes
wink.gif
, so I did about 5 fences, got him to clout one (I'm good at that
laugh.gif
) and went in. My half-halts were pretty much ignored the whole way round, and my trial shorter stirrups/more forward lower leg position didn't work either, so there was much whoa-ing, head-chucking and upper body see-sawing as the pair of us whirled round looking like a couple of demented muppets (me Kermit, him Fozzie
blush.gif
). The commentator said something about a "lovely clear round for Nicky McBaydale" so I'll shall recommend that he visit Specsavers.

A quick change into my Kermit outfit and a few laps of the warm up then off we set: easy peasy over 1 and 2, bold over the into-space at 3 and then we hurtled down the hill on the wrong leg
mad.gif
to the double of square things on a v neat two strides, round the edge of the hill to the scalloped hedge: Marty intent on watching the next horse starting SO nearly jumped the higher bit
crazy.gif
, then over the onion box and more hurtling downhill to the hedge before we came out into the open to the offset rolltops, again a v neat two strides. My steering and leading legs got better from there and he was feeling good, maybe liking the downhill bits better than the uphill bits as he's still a little portly.
smirk.gif

I'd heard of someone tripping up in the water so minced into it in a collected canter, to then almost nosedive two thirds of the way across.
shocked.gif
He inhaled some of it, I wore the rest but thank god my xc lower leg is 10 times better than my sj lower leg
smirk.gif
as we survived. He was fab over the hedge oxer, barely left the ground over the ickle coffin but stayed straight and soft, then hauled his big tummy up the hill over the chair and vegetable stand to finish, huffing and puffing a bit but not overly distressed and still managed to eat a polo by the time we got back to the trailer.
grin.gif

I knew I'd gone steady as Marty hasn't seen hills before and I didn't want to knacker him out completely, but surprisingly only got 2.8 time and somehow managed to come 9th. He got a 36 dressage btw: was mainly 7s until he did his freestyling, for which he deservedly got 4s, but comments of what a lovely horse he is
laugh.gif
....I know he's got a good test in him but he just ain't gonna give it to me easily.
mad.gif

If you've got this far please join me for afternoon tea: I've got builders' tea and shortbread but only because I forgot to bring some of Ma Baydale's scrummy cakes with me today.
frown.gif

Haha that was a brilliant report!
smile.gif
sounds like another cracking horse once he gets stronger - onwards and upwards .... literally!
smile.gif

Congrats

What a fab report! Loved reading it. Sounds like you had a great time, well done to both of you and thank you for the afternoon tea!

sounds like a great day, congrats Kermit on avoiding a wetting, you don't want to get that green fur waterlogged.
loving the image of you going clear sj like "a couple of demented muppets"... bet it didn't look like that at all, Oh Hypercritical One...
wink.gif

Thanks everyone, I think he'll be super but it might be some time yet before we see it.

No photos deskbound, will find out who the pro was and let you know, but only if they're good ones.
wink.gif

Kerilli, I can look like a muppet even before I've donned my green garb.
tongue.gif

Nice report - well done to you both!
I'm about to become an adopted Yorkshire lass again. Mind you - I don't think going to uni in Leeds counts as living in Yorkshire, but I think Thirsk certainly does!!
blush.gif

He hee, what a good boy he is turning into
cool.gif

At least your day was a darn site better than mine, Zebby wasn't playing games yesterday and retired at the 2nd showjump.
shocked.gif
A visit from the doctor today will either give me a sigh of relief or i'm going to shoot him!
blush.gif
tongue.gif
(Zeb not the vet!

The photographer was John Grossick, but there's nothing up yet
frown.gif
. 'Spose he's a busy chap. Harumph.

Roll on Novice (and maybe some more canter sessions first??
blush.gif
)
cool.gif

Fabby report as usual!

You've got to work the ittle un's good a proper just like our hills here!

Well done on keeping out of the wet stuff!

Again a wonderfully funny report that made me laugh out loud (not so good in an open plan office
blush.gif
!) Marty (aka Fozzie) sounds as if he has got the hang of whats required to be a Baydale boy!

Would love a cup of tea and some shortbread want some wine gums in exchange???

Well done Ms Mc-Baydale-Kermit and big pats for Smarty-Marty. He's coming on a treat isn't he?

It sounds like your lower leg is turning into a bit an issue - what's going on with it in the SJ then? At least you got it sorted for XC otherwise you would have got a ducking methinks. More work required Mrs....
tongue.gif

anakin - Thirsk is lovely, and Leeds has got Harvey Nicks so it's not like you're that out in the sticks.
cool.gif

Poor you wizoz, I hope there's a physical reason for him not wanting to play. Did you point out to him how much that cost you to do one dressage test and one fence?
mad.gif

Thanks Gamebird, I'll have a look over the next day or so, if you don't beat me to it.

k9h - I did joke with OH whether he could perhaps build me a hill like the one we were parked on; you needed ropes and crampons to get up it.
tongue.gif

I aim to please Maloo, but you might be a bit late for the shortbread.
blush.gif

m_m, he's not too bad considering he's just a hunter.
grin.gif
And the legs just have a mind of their own, either that or I'm deformed, which would at least give me a valid excuse.

I'm afraid I rather spat the dummy when I came out of the arena, I had to get off to pick up the stick I dropped after belting him with it after the first stop and stomped out of the arena, handed the reins to mum and said "have it" and stomped off
blush.gif
Mum said Zebby was hurrying after me, now why do I find that hard to believe?
smirk.gif

Nice name for a horse, McBaydale
grin.gif
. Well done you and Marty and well done for the limpet legs in the XC - lol

Clever Marty
smile.gif
- bet he thinks he is a 'proper' eventer now, like HH! Could he have a word with Flo do you think, as he seems to really enjoy his XC.

Is all the shortbread gone - I would love a bit. Haven't had any dinner
frown.gif

Hey McBaydale! (better than that certain local centre that insist on calling you McDonalds....
blush.gif
)

Great report and great result - well done!

As for Muppets - you have Miss Piggy on Sun too
